Still Evil (And Twisting Facts) After All These Years

by Abby Zimet

Thanks be to Albert Einstein, who taught us all things are relative. For all its very real imperfections, we feel a wave of gratitude for the Obama presidency every time some Bush-era weasel emerges out of whatever nasty hole he or she is inhabiting and starts spouting the usual fear-mongering, blood-tinged lies. Now Condoleezza Rice is saying that if we "abandon" Afghanistan, the terrorists will get us.

In a sickeningly ass-kissing interview that calls Rice "the should-be face of the GOP," Rice is portrayed as an "eloquent and elegant figure," concert pianist, Russian scholar and football fan who is "something of a rock star among the 'tween girl set," though documentation of this particularly bizarre claim is noticeably absent. Mostly, she is here to remind us once again that, "Every day, terrorists plot and plan to try to attack us."

The real outrage, though, is here:

"The last time we left Afghanistan, and we abandoned Pakistan, that territory became the very territory on which Al Qaeda trained and attacked us on September 11th. So our national security interests are very much tied up in not letting Afghanistan fail again and become a safe haven for terrorists...It's that simple. If you want another terrorist attack in the U.S., abandon Afghanistan."

Hello? If Afghanistan is so important, why did she and President whatzizname abandon it way back when in order to disastrously invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, thus causing Afghanistan "to fail again and become a safe haven for terrorists"?

The self-serving, logic-leaping, history-twisting lies go on. May the people who tell them get their just desserts.

1. The 'should-be' face of the Republicon Homelanders
Edited on Tue Sep-22-09 02:26 PM by SpiralHawk
is smeared and stained with the blood of the WMD and other lies she told to help edge the USA into a needless war with Iraq to boost Republicon crony oil & munitions profits. So many people have died needlessly because of her lies in support of the Republicon cabal.

2. So, if we leave Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia will attack US again?
So, we should fly our young men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq where the terrorists we grew there can kill our soldiers more easily (but with kind of a fighting chance) so the terrorists won't have to come all the way over here where we'd have to work on expecting them on our own soil.. which they are doing anyway according to our color coded fear chart.

Kind of like throwing live people into a volcano in order to stop the volcano from erupting and killing US.

3. Remember when Bush fans kept on about Clinton?
Sounds like Ms. Rice has what it takes to serve in the Obama Administration as well.

Afterall, he only disagreed with Bush until he got elected. Then it was signing statements, expanded wars, redefining 'Iraq withdrawal', love of warrantless wiretaps, the PATRIOT Act, and on and on.

So why should we be upset that an old liar has reared her ugly head, unless to distract us from the wolf in sheep's clothing in the Oval Office today?

4. But experience should teach her otherwise:
The Dubya Administration abandoned Afghanistan in 2003, and the terrorists didn't get us. And she participated in the abandonment.

5. It obviously didn't for her to make that remark. For a smart woman,
she seems awfully clueless to me.

6. Obama is taking ownership of this conflict.
“Some people on the right think Afghanistan is hopeless, some people think this is Obama’s war and want to do to Obama the same thing the left did to Bush with Iraq,”

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/03/world/asia/03policy.html?hp

....
Those involved are now in a cold sweat.

Unhappily for Bush and for those who carried out his instructions, on June 29, 2009 the Supreme Court ruled, in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, that Geneva DOES apply to al-Qaeda and Taliban detainees. One senior Bush administration official is reported to have gone quite pale at the time, when Justice Anthony M. Kennedy raised the ante, warning that "violations of Common Article 3 are considered 'war crimes,' punishable as federal offenses."

....
Among the most transparent parts of the letter from the Gang of Seven is their worry that "there is no reason to expect that the re-opened criminal investigation will remain narrowly focused."

....
-- Assassination planning without notification to Congress Goss, whose uncommonly abrupt departure in May 2006 was never looked into by the Fawning Corporate Media.
