Dobbs Plays the Victim, as Movement Demanding CNN Dump Him Grows

Dobbs is waving the First Amendment flag to try and distract from his long history of anti-immigrant views

Faced with a growing movement of communities demanding that CNN drop his program, Lou Dobbs responded Friday with one of his favorite postures: the victimized defender of American virtue. "They ask CNN to fire me because I oppose illegal immigration" said Dobbs, who added, "The last thing they want is a first amendment, where people can express themselves... These are the most un-American, frightened people in the world because they won't compete in the marketplace of ideas and facts."

Not surprisingly, Dobbs is waving the First Amendment flag to change the subject, which is not about disagreement on immigration policy, and has nothing to do with free speech. Dobbs has the right to his opinions; but there's nothing in the Constitution that says he deserves a "news" platform to disseminate hurtful and dangerous myths about immigrants.

1. Dobbs certainly is an anchor. When is CNN going to realize it?
And by "anchor," I mean a huge weight, a drag, on their ratings.

3. It has nothing to do with the first amendment
The government isn't trying to shut him up, some citizens are tired of listening to his crap and they have the right to tell his employer they are tired of it.

He can say whatever he wants. People can also tell CNN whatever they want about him.

The first amendment pertains only to government suppression of free speech.

15. The 1st Amendment is safe
I don't see the DOJ convening any grand juries against either CNN OR Lou Dobbs here.

You want to see an un-American, frightened person, devoid of facts, Lou? Look in the mirror. I bet you make even yourself sick.

6. ugh
his problem is he is not simply concerned about illegal immigration - he is anti-immigrants, which smacks to me of racism....he fails to see them as human beings and I don't care for that

14. He is allied with FAIR an anti-immigrant organization
seeking to severely curtail the legal immigration of black & brown people because they fear a weakening of white power.

18. some of Joe Wilson's best friends are black too.

Dobbs uses that from time to time but his constant "what are they thinking of" attitude basically rails against everything from time to time including guest worker programs.

These days it's three tones of off white/soft gray/muted brown instead of the usual gray/yellow with comb lines.

19. Not gonna happen.
As long as Lou Dobbs brings in ad money, CNN will keep him. If he stops bringing in revenue, that might change. That's all Time Warner cares about.
