Duct Taped Cat Found in North Philly Yard
$1K Reward offered in case
By VINCE LATTANZIO

Duct tape can be used for a lot of things -- patching holes, hanging posters -- you can even make a wallet or dress from it.

But one thing you should never use it for is making a suit for your cat.

This tan and black striped kitty was found sporting her second coat in a North Philadelphia yard Tuesday. A woman quickly called in the SPCA to rescue the feline after spotting it along the 2200 block of Edgley Street, officials said. They believed the cat was dumped there.

Vets were able to remove the tape without harming the cat. She is expected to be fine, according to officials.

The PSPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case. They are asking anyone with information to call the animal cruelity hotline at 866.601.7722.

This Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 picture provided by the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' shows a female cat covered in duct tape from head to toe which was dumped in a yard in the Rhawnhurst section of Philadelphia, but found by the SPCA Tuesday. Medical staff at the Pennsylvania SPCA were able to successfully remove the tape. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of whoever wrapped the feline.

If any donkeys or other livestock get taped, it would appear that the addiction is fully in bloom.

My cat (shit, every housecat ever) once got a piece of tape stuck to his tail. The poor bastard went flying around the place like his tail was on fire. Of course, I would never put a piece of tape on his tail or his paw intentionally. No, never ever.

Another time, we put a collar on him. It was way loose- three fingers loose- but he still acted like it was choking him. He was panting, crying, hooking it with his back feet, and generally acting like he just couldn't breathe at all. He could, of course; the collar was so loose he could have backed out of it if he had tried, and as soon as it was off him, he was fine. I'm pretty sure he was playing us.

My cat is a drama queen. But, he's a Maine Coon mix, so I guess that's to be expected.

when we got a ferret, I stuck a piece on scotch tape on his paw and he went right for my throat in full attack mode. Last time I did that.

A Burlingame man will serve time in county jail after pleading no contest to charges that he beat his girlfriend's dog to death.

In plea deal with prosecutors, Ryan Reeser was sentenced to six months in jail Tuesday after entering his no contest plea to one count of felony animal cruelty.

Prosecutors say Reeser beat the miniature pinscher after the dog had nipped him.

Being a cat person myself, I find this deplorable. But on the other hand the only actual consequences are a really really haircut. Furcut? anyway, it's just a matter of scissoring it off. I don't think the cat was in any serious danger.

Had I found this unfortunate cat, the last thing I would have done would be to just pull the duct tape off. The smart thing to do would be to cut it into longitudinal strips and then remove the strips by cutting the fur underneath.

65. Right, sure
if a dog or other predator came around it could have quickly wriggled away. Being ambulatory, much less being able to climb a tree to escape danger, is way overrated anyhow.

If no predator found it, food and water would have magically appeared right in front of its nose. Yeah, no problem.

Why do you automatically assume it would be found, and found by compassionate people? In this case it was, but other alternatives were very possible.

:eyes:

I don't find this funny or 'no hurt, no foul' because I've SEEN a dead cat wrapped like that and used to 'train' fighting dogs. So yeah, I'll get outraged every fucking time.

And by the size of the reward offered, that humane society has seen the exact same thing.

21. To some who are hardened to the fact that animals are living beings, they will find this hilarious
This IMHO is the main cause for animal cruelty ... not realizing or accepting that animals have feeling, both physical and emotional, as well. It doesn't help that religion can be twisted to imply that animals do not have souls.

23. giving people license to be cruel - where do you draw the line, here?

http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/9745/AB/CA/

A mayor's tears summed up a central Alberta town's shock and outrage over the horrific torture and killing of a dog. Passersby found the dog, a female collie-Lab cross, still alive but lying in a pool of blood in the street earlier this week. Her four legs were bound together with duct tape, a bag was covering her head and there was a tow rope around her neck. It appeared she had been dragged behind a vehicle.

The veterinarian called to the scene said the rope around her neck was so tight it caused one of her eyes to pop out. Her neck, back and pelvis were also broken.

The vet euthanized the dog immediately.

*** this it the kind of activity these 'funny duct tape incidents' lead to. Not funny. Not even remotely funny ***

24. It's only funny if you have no value for animal life
If someone did this to a real baby or child, there would be no humor found from 95% of the population. However, since many do not feel cats or dogs are life, pet torture is acceptable in their eyes, especially if the pet is a stray or they own it.

You need brute strength, way beyond a child's, to get it off the roll. It also takes skill, way beyond a child's, to apply it without it tangling. Now try doing this one handed dealing with a tabby.

67. $5 gets you $10 this is some dumbass who thought it would be funny.
That's cruel, and it's deliberately malicious, and it's not funny.

But I'll say this. Whoever this asshole was, if he (or possibly she) was intending to deliberately torture the cat, he'd probably have done something nastier to the poor thing. This strikes me as a case of a moron not thinking the possible consequences of his "joke" through.

So, y'know, take a cat o' nine tails (and not the wimpy S&M version, the British Navy version) to him for a hundred lashes, but don't kill him for his actions.

Cruelty to animals as a product of stupidity/ignorance should be punished, but not with the harshness (execution by slow torture) of cruelty to animals as a product of sadism.
