Company's employee performance evaluation program did include a review of rescission activity.
"But documents obtained by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and released today show that the company's employee performance evaluation program did include a review of rescission activity. The documents show, for instance, that one Blue Cross employee earned a perfect score of "5" for "exceptional performance" on an evaluation that noted the employee's role in dropping thousands of policyholders and avoiding nearly $10 million worth of medical care.

WellPoint's Blue Cross of California subsidiary and two other insurers saved more than $300 million in medical claims by canceling more than 20,000 sick policyholders over a five-year period, the House committee said.

That's nice. A company that hires sociopaths to review claims.
If they are people just trying to keep a job, they are either compassionate conservatives, people who disconnect completely from the reality of the situations or those who can't sleep at night.

2. thank you for following up on this
i watched kucinich's hearings and each one of the executives testifying insisted they didn't know this information. i don't know if these documents come from the same hearing, but they are pertinent to it. how does anyone keep all the committees straight?

i'm glad this came out and hope it gets a lot of coverage. a vain hope, no doubt, but still.

4. K&R
Instead of the 24/7 covering of the lunatic fringe racist juvenile astroturf teabaggers, the M$M needs to do some stories on what has come out of these committees on the atrocious business practices of these deathcare providers.

7. Recommended. People need to pay attention.
It WILL happen to someone you or someone you love unless these greedy pigs are severely regulated or better yet, put out of business.

BTW, these pigs will keep every DIME of the premiums paid by people up until the day they try to use their policy and get rescinded.

10. Analysis: It's not just a job, it's a blindfold.
What do you do when 'company loyalty' completely conflicts with the needs of human beings? Some people quit, some people don't take the job to begin with, and some probably get into it because it's the only job they can find that feeds their families. Besides, if they 'didn't do it, someone else would'. People get into things like this before they realize what they are going to actually be doing, and the fact that their coworkers are doing the same things (and seem like perfectly nice, sane people at the backyard barbeque) reinforces the normalcy of it. I think it is something like the Milgram experiment.

11. Well put
And for those who'd rather "belong" than think for themselves, it becomes much easier to blame the victims & focus on irrelevancies. Sheeple.
