The problem right now appears to be cost. |
|
Most everyone (Democrats) can agree on the Health Care aspects of the bill and that is the majority of it, but the ONLY bill that has truly considered cost factor is the Baucus Bill out of finance. This is the part that is going to get really dicey.. Right now the CBO is saying there will indeed be money taken from Medicare, (over a hundred billion)and Obama has said that won't happen. How can we get a decent Bill that will be deficit neutral? I believe, in not too many years, there will be tremendous savings, but I don't believe those can be stated in the Bill. The Baucus Bill also has a taxation aspect on policies that are "Cadillac". Obama has stated that won't be in the final bill either, but what will make up that revenue?

1. Why does it have to be deficit neutral? For Pete's sake, we spend |
|
billions a year killing people. Why is it so bad to spend money to help people?
And what are we going to be spending if something isn't done? Three times as much!

3. I still don't think that's necessary. |
|
And as I said, we'll be spending many, many times that amount if nothing is done, since health insurance and health care costs are rising five to ten times the cost of inflation.

4. I Agree It's a Huge Issue |
|
that has been compounded by ignoring it for so long.
Part of it is timing -- costs of unpaid care that have to be recovered from others should drop substantially -- but it's difficult to account for if it hasn't affected hospital prices.
The cost to individuals is just as big as the budget issues. The mandated insurance is going to be absolutely ruinous to a lot of people. It has the potential to kill the whole plan and possibly Obama's presidency.

5. Take a couple hundred billion from the dod budget |
|
after all we already spend something like 10x what the rest of the world spends on killing or being ready to kill their neighbors. Like most empires of the past when the so called defense budget becomes so large they topple from rot and deficit

6. Cost is the 600 pound gorilla nobody... |
|
admits is there.
Where is the control on $40 aspirin tablets? The parade of "consulting" doctors passing by every hospital bed with a frown and a bill? The pressure for billing at private practices?
Yesterday I was listening to a New Hampshire man talk about how his health insurance saved his life when he got leukemia. That's great, but then he mentioned that the insurance company had been paying up to a million dollars a year for his treatment.
ONE MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR FOR ONE PERSON!
That's right, the evil, rotten insurance company has paid millions to keep this guy alive. So, how is any "plan" out there going to figure out either how to get that million bucks down to a reasonable level or come up with the money to pay millions for all the really sick people out there?
