Photograph - Pregnant mother kisses fireman who saved her life
She is pregnant;

he had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he continued to fight the fire.

When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest.

A photographer from the Charlotte , North Carolina newspaper, noticed her in the distance looking at the fireman.

As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her babies and kissed him just as the photographer snapped this photograph.

Scroll down for photograph.

31. If not thanking him than responding to his condition
Dogs are very sensative to the suffering of others and it's not surprising when they are giving to the sufferer whether it's physical pain, emotional pain, illness, exhaustion, etc. I think it's part of why humans have made such an attachment with dogs... they respond to our suffering by trying in their own way to alleviate it and we recognize it as such.

dog was certainly expressing gratitude and empathy and the photographer got a great pic.

Makes me miss my poochie-loves too. I sure hope the rest of the story has a happy ending as well, in that the family had someplace to go and didn't lose everything. From the looks of the fireman, seems like it was much more serious than just a little kitchen fire.

60. animals are amazing
and when you rescue an animal they will follow until they can thank you...

My favorite real life story actually involved a police dog.

Well doggie went after bad guy, this is on a Saturday night... dog got shot.

Most times police dogs are not the friendliest. He actually behaved in the rig, and we didn't have to do much beyond some gentle muzzling.

We took dog on ambulance to trauma bay, where one of our volunteers, who was a vet, was waiting. To make a long story short, since we treated the dog in the field, and later the hospital, the dog made it. No, there was no animal hospital open, and in case anybody wonders, police dogs are sworn officers, so all those laws that might make you go EEEEWWWWW usually are ignored.

Well he growled at other people, but my crew and the vet, he was the sweetest thing you could ever meet. And if he was present at any scene we were present, he was very protective of his partner and us.

We also took care of a dog after a fire, he was a street mutt, but the dog of one of our patients. We gave the dog O2... he pulled the kid out of the fire. Once he was back, with pink tongue, he started to kiss us... it was great.

130. All my animals are spayed.
I just object to someone sermonizing. Can't people just leave a nice thread alone for a change without some goddam lecture?

81. "It's a miracle! We were saved by the hand of Man!"
(I get pretty tired of all those "Thank God!" outbursts from people who have just been rescued by some emergency responder, every bit as mortal as themselves, who put his life on the line to save theirs.)

82. Sweet, sweet, sweet.
Animals know. Anyone who's ever adopted a rescue pet knows they understand what their life used to be and how much better it is now. And especially bless the first responders who understand that EVERY life is worthwhile. This guy knew that. And that doggie understood and appreciated it.

Also, just because threads tend to turn into dog vs cat people, I offer this:

The website (http://www.therescuers.fabulary.com/about-this-blog/) is all about heroes saving animals.

104. Why do people just make up shit?
I mean, seriously. The real story was still sweet, but I can't understand why someone would go to the trouble to make up a story and send it all over the internet. http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/gratitude.asp

So what if she let herself out... She knew they were there to help! :-)

Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 01:08 PM by pnorman
But my BS detector pricked up its ears on this story. AFAIK, dogs do NOT become pregnant while the puppies are still around. I've been wrong on weightier things than this in the past, so you WON'T hurt my feeling by correcting me here!

122. yep as was documented up thread

I should have known - the guy who sent it to me always has stories that are not SNOPES worthy.

Atleast it was only a minor inconsistency. The dog was in the house but the fireman didn't actually carry her out.
