Rocky Mountain High: US Military Didn't Mean to Grow Marijuana
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS) Military marijuana? The U.S. Army planned to cover a chemical weapons site with grass and weed – but not the kind of grass and weed that's actually cropping up – the kind that's illegal.

The Army made the unwanted discovery during the cleanup of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal northeast of Commerce City, Colo. Part of the cleanup includes reseeding some areas. But when that seed started to grow, marijuana popped up.

It isn't commercial grade, but it's still an illegal drug. Known as ditch weed or feral hemp, it grows wild in some places.

The army's Charlie Scharmin, who's in charge of the cleanup, was caught off guard by the discovery.

"Not something you expect in an environmental cleanup job," says Scharmin. "It was a little surprising."

1. It grows along all of the railroad tracks where I grew up
and if you smoke it, it will more likely make you sick than high.

2. That's not good enough - I demand that the Congress defund the Army and investigate for voter fraud!
:sarcasm:

3. back in the 70s, we used to clean our weed on
the window sills of the barracks we lived in. Of course the seeds rolled out into the beds below and sprouted. It was kinda neat being in formation and seeing the 2ft tall neatly trimmed plants behind the C.O.

Man, how times have changed.

4. Geez, this stuff grows wild throughout Missouri
We were the number 1 hemp growing state back when that was legal, and thus we've got ditch weed growing all over the state. Most people leave it alone, but once in awhile some teenager smokes a ton of the shit trying to catch a buzz and winds up with a massive headache instead.

For years and years we spent million on marijuana eradication, the planes would fly every summer. The only dope these idiotic State Patrol guys wound up eradicating was ditch weed, the good stuff was too well hidden.

5. I'd much rather have weed growing than toxins from a chemical weapons test site
