Dear Republican Congressman/Senator, I know that you are against universal HC, I understand . . .
The position against Universal Health care is one that has a certain clarity about it. As a purely philosophical position I can respect you for stating it honestly.

The idea that everyone should have access to health care is not an idea that has reached absolute universal acceptance.

For example I am fairly certain that President Robert Mugabe does not believe that the Morgan Tsvangirai and his Movement for Democratic Change in Zimbabwe should receive access to health care. I say that because he also doesn't seem to want anyone outside of his ZANU-PF group to have any food.

Going out on a limb I would have to guess that Ahmadinejad unlawful President of Iran doesn't believe that the Zionists in Israel should get universal health care but probably would be happy with any non Zionist Jews (his words) getting it.

After that the group that has a philosophic agreement with you drops off quite a bit. Even leaders of countries considered to be "odd" Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela all agree in universal access.

Nevertheless you have your principles and you should stick to them.

So, purely for clarity sake would you be so very kind as to explain who you think should not get access to health care? The poor who cannot afford it? The middle class who have been priced out of the market? Those with pre-existing conditions? Those that paid but got sick and now face a frivolous reason for being declined.

You see if people asked you to be really specific who in your own district or state should not be included for coverage it would just help everyone understand your philosophical point not in a metaphysical way but in a physical, incarnate way (embodied in flesh; given a bodily, esp. a human, form), it would help to clarify what this debate is all about.

So let's take turns. We will start with Senator Grassley.

"Senator Grassley, you are against universal health care, in order that I can understand your position clearly, please tell me which residents of the great State of Iowa you think should be excluded from getting health care?"

Somehow I have a feeling if all of the Republican Senators and Congresspeople were asked this question in this way the health care debate would be over very quickly.

1. According to Sen Cantor, there is always charity available if
you don't have taxpayer-subsidized insurance like he does.

2. and didn't the nice Sen. Grassley say "go work for the government like me"
I'm paraphrasing, but that was from a town hall meeting.

(Good question though!)
