Paul Kirk Tapped for Kennedy Senate Seat
According to Huffington Post Paul Kirk will be announced as the man to fill the Massachusetts Senate seat held previously by Ted Kennedy.

The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza said on MSNBC Wednesday afternoon that an announcement could come later in the day.

Kirk was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1985 to 1989 and a longtime aide to the late Sen. Kennedy. He currently co-chairs the Commission on Presidential Debates, is the chairman of the board of directors of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, and is a member of the board of directors of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.

A family confidant said Wednesday both Edward Kennedy Jr. and Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., had endorsed Kirk in separate phone calls.

Looking up some history he seems a good temporary replacement. Maybe Harry can use this appointment to regain balls on health care and the environment.

1. Someone probably 99% of the population of MA is unfamiliar with.
Dumb choice.

2. Not dumb at all
Kirk isn't interested in running for a full term; he's a caretaker. As a trusted longtime Kenedy confidante, he will have the confidence of the Senate staff, and will keep things on an even keel for now.

Senate seat..so it's not a "dumb choice".

5. Funny you would say that.
Since you seem to be on the un-Democratic side of every thread, for some reason.

If I remember correctly, you wanted the RomneyCare cheerleader, right?

6. Yep,you're right. I'm old, cranky, and have actually voted for three
Republicans---Ike,Saltonstall,and Brooke.

My age makes me more conservative on many issues, but I would stand outside in a blizzard to fight for a union,or to fight for gays or anyone who is being persecuted for their race or religion.

I'm a mish-mash,and proud of it.

7. I know our little ethics choir would hate it but I think any appointment should be used to help set
up a candidate for the actual election.
