Tulsa World: Officer is arrested in complaint on drugs
Published: 9/24/2009 2:29 AM

Tulsa police arrested one of their fellow officers on a complaint of possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute Tuesday night after cocaine reportedly was found in his police car.

Officer Travis K. Ludwig, 37, maintains his innocence and said he doesn't know where the drugs came from, according to his attorney, Scott Wood.

Wood said Ludwig thinks the drugs were dumped there by a suspect, and he said it is not uncommon for weapons or drugs to be dumped by criminals in officers' cars.

Ludwig was arrested Tuesday night and was booked into the Tulsa Jail just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, according to jail records. He has been suspended from his duties as a patrol officer at the Gilcrease Division pending the outcome of the investigation.

<snip>

Ludwig, who was hired in June 1995, has had previous disciplinary action from the Police Department. In January 2006, he was suspended without pay for 40 hours after supervisors found that he had violated rules against conduct unbecoming an officer due to his relationship with a married exotic dancer.

Ludwig was accused of telling the woman not to cooperate with an Internal Affairs investigation into the matter, according to documents that are part of a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by the woman's husband.

1. Sure....a bad guy planted it in the car....
...

"...a small plastic container of cocaine was found in the console of Ludwig's patrol car after it was seized."

Sure, right...the console ~~ that thing that is on the FRONT SIDE of the cage where the bad guys are on the BACK SIDE. Must have some really funny built bad guys in Tulsa to get their hands and arms through the cage to put that container in the console!

:rofl:

2. I remember an encounter with crooked cops and planted drugs.

I was with a friend that day. He and his friends were pot smokers--this much is true--but they weren't "holdin'" that day. They went out to hang out at another friends' house, threw back a few drinks, listened to music, and they came back to his house. He was in the kitchen and noticed something funny stuffed behind the refrigerator that he did not recall ever putting there. It was a bag of weed. Nobody in the house claimed it as theirs, but they wanted to smoke it, and he said fuck that and quickly disposed of it fearing something was seriously wrong.

Sure enough, less than an hour later, there was a "noise complaint" and a report of possible domestic disturbance at this house. The police came, and my friends played it cool, and this officer came through said he smelled some weed. In truth, the house did smell of weed. I know, because I was in the house throughout the day, but there was none in the house at the time. Nobody had bought anything that day as far as I knew. The police came through, and one of them made his way into the kitchen and checked behind the refrigerator.

Well, the fucker couldn't find the stash, and he seemed to get real pissed off and started tearing up the kitchen looking for the shit, but it was flushed. We figured it was a set-up. The city leaders were having a real rash of gang and drug crimes, and they were applying a lot of pressure on the police to get results.

I don't know if Travis is an innocent man, but from my experience and my friends' experience with the police, I would say you would be hard-pressed to find any sympathetic voices among us. A healthy mistrust of police authority is the only constant.
