Brian Williams is a "dittohead?"
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 08:05 AM by Are_grits_groceries
NBC's Brian Williams uses Limbaugh's words to describe UN meeting as "Star Wars" "bar scene"

Edit to add:
From the September 23 broadcast of Premiere Radio Networks' The Rush Limbaugh Show:

LIMBAUGH: Well, I'm telling you, when Obama says America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements, he's not speaking for me. And I don't know how many Americans he is actually speaking for in this dreadfully frightening and scary speech today before the Star Wars bar scene. The world, ladies and gentlemen, is on the brink of destruction. We face, daily, a threat that could wipe us out. What is that threat? Muslim extremists? Terrorists? International thug cartels? No! No. This is the threat.

WILLIAMS: I do listen to Rush. I listen to it from a radio in my office, or depending on my day, if I'm in the car, I will listen to Rush. And he will tell you I've been listening for years. I think it's my duty to listen to Rush. I think Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due, because his audience for so many years felt they were in the wilderness of this country. No one was talking to them.

<...>

Rush said to millions of Americans, you have a home. Come with me. For three hours a day you can listen and hear the like-minded calling in from across the country, and I'll read to you things perhaps you didn't see that are out there. I think Rush gave birth to the FOX News Channel. I think Rush helped to give birth to a movement. I think he played his part in the Contract with America. So I hope he gets his due as a broadcaster .

Will he give him his due as a hatemonger and a racist??

This was from 2004, but he is obviously still listening.

1. The only reason Rush's audience needed a home was because St Ronnie
tossed them into the street without a safety net years ago.

As if I needed one to begin with...

3. "listen to the like-minded" ?? The feeble-minded, you mean.
Yes, Rush did give birth to a movement -- a movement of hate-filled, whiner, whackjobs!!!

:wtf: Brian Williams just lost all credibility.

5. "so many years felt they were in the wilderness of this country" Ummm Brian....
Maybe they are in the wilderness because they are loons without a single grasp of reality. Do you sit around and read the transcripts of mental institution patients discuss their theories with their psychologist? Of course not. The only difference is that the limbaugh listeners are outside the walls.

6. Should we boycott everyone who listens to Limbaugh? We can start with a host of DUers.

Limbaugh is quoted here daily.

11. you call what Brian said "praises"? It's a somewhat accurate assessment. Sad that unless
someone regurgitates hatred back at Rush, DU'ers call it praise.

14. My thought exactly. I don't listen to television news at all, but I like Brian Williams.
I know him only through The Daily Show, and he's likeable and entertaining.

and his stupid, crooked face (literally, have you ever noticed how his face seems to slant to one side) creeps the shit out of me.

8. Hey Brian. Ideas shape opinions. Opinons become beliefs. The vast majority

of people vote their beliefs, regardless of the facts. Take Limbaugh's ideas to the logical conclusion. Still think he deserves credit?

Enjoy your $5 million salary and spare us your bullshit. We have to live with people like this on a daily basis, not just hire them to do our landscaping.

16. If you read it again, Williams only says Limbaugh found an audience that previously felt abandoned.
He simply stated a fact.

10. I have to disagree with all of you (or most). I think it's a newsman's job to know all perspectives
because one cannot form an opinion based on one side of an issue.

Brian Williams is very liberal, if you ever see him on another venue (The Daily Show for instance) then you would see that clearly.

13. It's a little scary that DU'ers who think they're so objective & well-informed freak out at someone
for describing a phenomena as he sees it.

This reminds me of when Obama talked about Reagan's influence.

He wasn't PRAISING Reagan's policies and yet DU'ers freaked out on him.

17. Now you did it. Try entering into a discussion with this crowd about the merits of NPR.
NPR often dares to show both sides of an issue without screaming, "You're a lying idiot" to the representative of the right. Suddenly, NPR is now the voice of the GOP.

:eyes: :silly:

12. So Williams makes an objective assessment to who Rush's audience is and how Rush led to Fox News
and he's a Freeper?

What a screwed up place DU is sometimes.

if your answer is No, and you don't then you have really showed your bias.

19. This wouldn't surprise me.
Williams is a non-entity when it comes to journalism.
We switched off NBC a while ago - my wife in particular loved the Today Show and the Nightly News.
I complained enough that she now watches the other stations - they may not be much better but they are better.
The Today Show is garbage now.
We watch the World News at 7pm in our market on Public TV. It's very good.
If we're watching at 6:30pm we usually watch Katie Couric now. Go ahead and laugh - I have to say, she asks the tough questions in the interviews better than the other big two. She has courage.

20. His comments (if true) legitimatize irrational talk.
I'm not saying Williams is right or left - and I don't care. I stopped watching him because Couric asks better questions.
What his comments accomplish however is legitimizing what is essentially batshit crazy nonsense from Limbaugh.
The sooner rational thinking people can ignore the likes of Beck, Limbaugh, and O'Reilly - including the left's spokespeople - the sooner we can get to a civil discussion, if that's still possible anymore.

21. Sorry.
Not going to get an objective comment from me about Beck or Limbaugh. If they wander into a truth, it's by accident. I won't say one word that even begins to legitimize them. They take any comment that shows them in a favorable light and run with it continuously to prove how honest they are all the time.

Time magazine puts Beck on the cover sticking his tongue out, and that makes it seem like he is just a kid messing around. The article wasn't much better. He sounds sane.

They are spewing so much hatred that it is raising the threat level every day.

I will not give them an inch, and I don't have to take comments out of context or make them up to prove how dangerous they are. I can quote them.
