Spain has a nuclear event

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=eng

Spain's 1,000 megawatt Vandellos II nuclear power station has been temporarily stopped for inspection and repairs following a drop in power in one of its reactors, regulator CSN said on Thursday. The plant was shut down after a more than 20 percent drop in power in its main reactor at 0000 GMT, the CSN said.

1. Spain is also one of the leading countries in Solar Power
I believe I read that they are up to about fifty percent Solar.

2. "Nuclear Event" is a bit over the top.
Not an accurate description of the incident.

10. The intent is what matters and "forgetting" details doesn't help..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Nuclear_Event_Scale

The event was a class 1 on the INES = Anamoly of more specifically "breach of operating limits at a nuclear facility" which is the lowest in a scale 1 to 7.

There was no release, no damage, and no injury. The reactor didn't fail, no was there any danger. It was shutdown as a precaution.

Also looks like the issue had nothing to do with the reactor itself. A transformer developed a hotspot which could eventually lead to a burnout. No different than at a coal plant, or natural gas plant. I am sure the OP also notifies us every time a transformer blows at a coal, natural gas, or even solar power plant.

Spain's 1,000 megawatt Vandellos II nuclear power station halted off schedule early on Thursday after operators detected a hot spot in the main transformer, a statement from the CSN nuclear watchdog said.
The fault was detected at 0000 GMT and plant was disconnected from the grid to allow for repairs. "It won't happen overnight. It'll take several days," a spokeswoman said at the plant, which is near the northeastern port of Tarragona.

3. I like the quote from the link,
"Nothing happens unexpectedly, everything has an indication, we just have to observe the connections."

11. Haha; so now we must
make a video of 5-year-olds holding their hands over their hearts, and repeating that in unison.

about the efficacy of multiply redundant safety systems at nuclear generating stations around the world.

Thanks for your continued vigilance of nuclear power. At least we have the ability to see for ourselves whether or not the events are serious.

Remember that the technical description of Chernobyl was a "prompt critical excursion".
