Chavez: I hope Obama is not killed
Venezuela's Hugo Chavez is addressing the UN praising Gadhafi, Evo Morales, and African leaders. He took a swipe at US President Barack Obama implying that he (Chaves) would not repeat any part of Obama's speech while saying that there is no freedom of speech in the US because Oliver Stone's movie about himself would be censored by the US government. He also stated that he wants to buy cookie factories and other US businesses from Obama to make them Socialist and get rid of the Capitalists. He said that the USSR was not truly Socialist and that is why it failed. He said that there will be a new Socialist state in the Americas including US led by the Indo-Americans (not the Caucasians). Furthermore, referring to John F. Kennedy, he said that JFK was a great thinker when he said that the Latin Americans would revolt because of "hunger". He said that we all know what happened to Kennedy, felled by assassin bullets. He also said that he hoped "that Obama would not fall to bullets, too" because the UN now smells of "hope" and not "sulfur", a thinly veiled swipe at former President Bush.

5. He is now saying that Manuel Zelaya told him today that Obama and Hillary
Clinton are coup mongers since they have not denounced strongly the ouster of Zelaya and that the Obama Administration is weak because the Pentagon is ruling foreign policy and the Pentagon is right wing. He said that Obama is a hypocrite: "two Obamas...one that spoke here yesterday or the Obama supporting the coup. Who is the real Obama? The world hopes it is the one that spoke here yeasterday" (will update in a few minutes)

7. In the 21st Century, we in Latin America we will build our own destiny
and imperialism must cease. How would Latin America be doing if the USA would not have interfered with our people? They invaded Guatemala. Once again, the two Obamas: why not lift the Cuba blockade and follow your own advice? So Obama, what are you waiting for?"

9. On the thread title, I wholeheartedly agree
Chavez - he was great until he went despot.

Granted, he's not Pinochet, but he's no Allende either

11. Chavez is not that bad. He is theatrical and a loose canon at times but he has done
a lot of good for the poor people in Venezuela. I have some reservations about his politics but overall he is not a devil.

13. He already told us who the devil was in one of his previous US speaches.....
I think he was right on the money with that as well. Bush certainly seemed like the devil to many over the 8 years of his mismanagement.

18. Wow, that's all over the place
Does this guy care about his image in the US? He should probably get some kind of PR person to at least point out things that might not be taken well.

I'm mostly talking about the "buying cookie factories" thing. No part of announcing that plan in the UN is a good idea for Chavez.

20. Now he is quoting Fidel Castro about global warming. He is warning that we are
ruining our planet, that our planet is our spaceship and we are destroying it. "Let's be responsible. Obama has said that he will help save the planet. I urge Obama, no more words, do it!" Venezuela is asking everyone in the world to control contamination and to stop hyperconsumption of oil and to save resources"

23. Yes, Obama has been marvelous with his stances since Fidel, Chavez,
Evo Morales and Correa cannot demonize him like they demonized Bush. He has them scratching their heads, they do not know what to think now of our American President.

25. I don't get that impression at all. I get the impression that a lot of people
are relieved when Obama comes out with sane policy. There are plenty of struggles in Latin America without having to take on the US President, too, as they did when the torture president was in office. All the people you named supported Obama over McWar albeit quietly so as not to generate bad press for Obama.

28. "-and from now on, underwear shall be worn on the outside.."

Chavez has jumped the shark: Cookie factories/Oliver Stone/USSR/ Heaps of praise for Qaddafi = a cornucopia of crazy. He is only taken seriously because Venezuela has lots of oil. If Chavez said people should wear their underwear on the outside, **a few** lefties would probably do it.

doesn't care for Mr Bush. In fact I'm almost sure of that. I'm very perceptive you see.
