Lingerie Football League: Girl Power or Sexist Piggery?
I'm not opposed to women working in strip clubs; they're "big girls" and can do what they want. I even have a girlfriend who works in one and it's paying for her college rather well. I even told my boyfriend he can go with his buddies because he's an adult, I don't own him and I trust him (he says it's a set-up :P).

Anyhoo...

I was suspicious of the Lingerie Football League when I heard my boyfriend joking about it with his buddies. It seemed exploitative--more so than a straight-up strip club. Well, recently I saw footage from one of the games and--HOLY CRAP!--they hit each other--HARD!

I presume it was put together just for the jiggle-factor but the players themselves seem to play very seriously and with a great deal of pride; does that make a difference?

What say you?

1. I'd say girl power.
But I'm guessing that by saying that, many people here would consider me to be a sexist pig. So what do I know?

2. But men need all that padding to play!
Just another case of women being tougher, lol.

3. It isn't girl power OR sexist piggery. It's a gimmick and attention seeking device.

4. Sexist piggery
No real female athlete would allow herself to be mocked like this.

5. If you don't have a problem with stripping, it's hard for me to see how you could one with that.

9. I think post #4 sums up what I couldn't put into words.
Stripping has no illusions or allusions. You know what it is.

This is taking an established sport and turning it into something it isn't merely for the sake of ogling women. Disingenuous, dishonest, fraud etc are words that come to mind.

Yet, despite the very legit observation in Post #4 these women seem to play very seriously (I underscore the term "seem").

12. Like no real female dancer would allow herself....?

EDIT: In any case, likely it's a bunch of adult women who simply don't mind shaking their girly parts for men.

It's not my place to criticize whatever free choices grown women make for their own bodies.

13. Yeah, they play hard, but they're only wearing bras and boyshorts

I appreciate that these women are trying to make an actual sport out of this, but even rugby players wear more clothing than that when it's time for the opening scrum.

Doesn't look like my cup of tea.

16. No different than "Professional Pillow Fighting"
Pillow fighting goes professional

THEY are not allowed to scratch, gouge or pull each other’s hair, but the women fighters of North America’s newest professional sport wield a potentially punishing weapon: a standard fibre-filled bed pillow.

Hundreds of New Yorkers were queueing up on Friday night for the US debut of the Pillow Fight League (PFL), a Canadian invention that sounds like a male fantasy but is threatening to become a popular sport for women who enjoy behaving badly.

“We beat the crap out of each other and we’re giggling at the end,” declared Katrina Randell, a Canadian model whose pillow-fighting nom de plume is Sally Spitfire. “It’s not just a bunch of sexy girls in lingerie — get ready, you’re going to get walloped.”

From its beginnings in a Canadian nightclub last year, the PFL (slogan: “Fight like a girl”) has suddenly turned into a cult attraction with 22 fighting members, an official (male) referee and a list of rules that forbid punching, low blows and “rude, lewd or suggestive behaviour”. It is also an offence to stuff a brick in a pillow.

17. I'd rather watch the guys
Not to mention the fact that lingerie does not have the effect on me that it would a heterosexual male...

18. Betcha didn't know the Lingerie Bowl has been an alternative...
Superbowl halftime pay-per-view special for years.

The Lingerie Football League is the promoter of that show taking it one step further since it's been so popular, with thousands showing up live for it.

Is it kinda silly? I think so, but never, ever, underestimate the commercial appeal of T&A.

(google is your friend, btw)
