I have two black students that absolutely HATE Obama
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 05:02 PM by greenbriar
one says he is going to bring proof that Obama is "satan" and it is in the bible

His aunt works at the school and I talked to her. She is spitting mad because she loves Obama and knows that her son is the one that has put this crap in her nephews head.

She is going to talk with him tonight...

It is interesting how impressionable these students are

I know ...just because they are black doesn't mean that have to like Obama, but I know the families...obviously not every member, but I work with one of the students aunt and she was so giddy when Obama was elected ( and yes it was a little about race but more about the good of the country)

I just sighed and said when Reagan was president, there were people saying he was the anti-christ because Ronald (6) Wilson (6) Reagan (6) . I really have to be careful not to push my beliefs so I just told them that people can use all kinds of signs to sway beliefs to one side or another. I said they might want to do some research to see what Obama has done and is trying to do for the country before they make judgments based on some unproven theory.

we sometimes forget they are like a sponge

61. Is your definition of "walk on water" in the biblical sense?
I've yet to meet an Obama supporter who actually believes him to be the Messiah as the Rethugs like to imply. But clearly, there are people who think he is the literal anti-Christ.

53. Lost cause.
Along with the "less/fewer" distinction, and the subjunctive.

I swear, I cringe when I read things like "It's important that the bill is passed by Congress" and realize that they meant to write, "It's important that the bill be passed by Congress." In the first, I wonder how it is that the bill's in the process of being passed and what that status is important. In the second, I understand it's an opinion and something that is yet future.

In Britain the subjective is completely dead except in formal writing; they're leading on this. It's nearly completely dead in American usage among those under 40. Oddly, it's mostly dead among those over 40; my little backwater preserved the subjunctive. (It completely lost the that/which distinction, however.)

I'm sorely pissed at several pastors right now... my aunt and cousins were told by their pastor to only watch Faux Gnus, and not to listen to anyone who supports Obama! The fear of "God" is a horrible thing to do to people. Jesus is crying, I'm quite certain...

Edited to say, there are some really awesome Christian groups speaking out in favor... but they aren't ugly, hateful, toothless and stoopid, so they don't get shown on the news.

40. LOL... no it isn't...
That's a common mistake, though, sine the original 1500's mention was pitchers....

LITTLE PITCHERS HAVE BIG EARS - "Children hear and understand more than you think they do. The play here is on the resemblance of the ear to the handle of a pitcher. It is an ancient saying, having been recorded by John Heywood in 1546: 'Auoyd your children, smal pitchers haue wide eares.'" From "The Dictionary of Cliches" by James Rogers

The common American usage since the early 1900's refers to little pictures, who are silent like pictures on a wall, but have ears to hear all.

46. The origin is probably from ten minutes after the original "pitchers" was referred to
and some innocent bystander didn't get the joke, so he started saying "pictures".

But seriously, there are hundreds of words that get corrupted from correct usage to "what somebody thought they heard". I hear it every day. It's especially common among folks who have disdain for "book-larnin'" or anything that resembles wide knowledge of word meanings.

Of course, I'm trying to come up with some quick examples and I can't think of one. But I will and I'll post it (or them) when I do.

Somebody help me out here!!

I am very careful to not push my ideology on to my children. When the idiot was president, the students never knew how I felt about him.

By token, they do not know who I voted for this last election. I only say now that he is the president and we respect the president

just like I said when the idiot was president.

I was just taken aback at the tone and mannerism which was so totally out of character for these young men

37. I could be wrong, but I think part of the point
in mentioning they're black may have something to do with the many DUers who, whenever a white person says they hate Obama, the very first thing they screech is "RACIST!!!!"

Like it's not possible for a person...even a white person...to dislike/hate him for reasons other than race.

so mentioning that there are even some black people who dislike him sort of shores up the point...or should, anyway....that race isn't always the reason why people don't like him, as much as many DUers would like to believe race is the primary (or only) reason.

JMO

He accidentally changed the channel on his TV from PBS Sprout and after trying to get back to it on his own he landed on CNN and they were talking about the statement from that asshat Grassley about killing grandma.

He was really terrified that the someone was going to come and kill his grandma..to the point of tears

He wasn't even on that channel for a minute but he heard "kill grandma" and that was all he needed to hear to freak out

These Republicans are idiots and need to start thinking before they say stuff like this.
