Speech to the UN- shame on you for sitting with the Holocaust denier |
|
http://blog.taragana.com/n/auschwitz-blueprints-highlight-netanyahus-un-riposte-to-iran-presidents-holocaust-claims-178183/The Israeli leader came armed with original documents handed to him last month when he visited Germany, and launched into an angry denunciation of Ahmadinejad’s comments on the Holocaust, most recently in a speech in Tehran last week in which he spoke of “twisted propaganda plots” to depict Jews as oppressed, and said the Holocaust needed “research … to clear up facts.”
Holding up the protocol of the 1942 conference at Wannsee, outside Berlin, where top Nazis decided on the destruction of European Jewry, Netanyahu asked: “Is this protocol a lie?”
Then he held up the blueprints including gas chambers and crematoria for Auschwitz-Birkenau, the death camp where more than 1 million Jews were murdered.
“Those plans are signed by Hitler’s deputy, Heinrich Himmler himself. Is this, too, a lie?” he asked.
Six million Jews were killed during World War II, one-third of all world Jewry. In Europe, nearly every family was affected — including Netanyahu’s own.
“What of the Auschwitz survivors whose arms still bear the tattooed numbers branded on them by the Nazis?” he asked. “Are those tattoos a lie?”
“My wife’s grandparents, her father’s two sisters and three brothers, and all the aunts, uncles and cousins, were all murdered by the Nazis. Is that also a lie?” Netanyahu asked.
To those who remained at the General Assembly on Wednesday when Ahmadinejad spoke, he asked: “Have you no shame? Have you no decency?”

1. Because the whole purpose of the United Nations... |

...is to provide a place where nations at odds with each other can gather together...and then walk out when a representative of a nation you disagree with speaks. :eyes:

2. Netanyahu's right on that one |
|
People need to be more confrontational about this because all too often we assume that something so ludicrous as Holocaust denial couldn't be believed by anybody, yet all too many people are willing/able to be duped.
That being said, I don't like the fact that Ahmedinajad's views on the Holocaust, as insulting and wrong as they are, have become a substitute for a real discussion in the media and elsewhere about the actual foreign and domestic policies which influence relations between Iran and the rest of the world.

While I am disgusted by Ahmadinejad's statements and while I was sickened to the core when I visited Dauchau and Nuremburg last summer, I find it disturbing that Netanyahu would exploit that tragedy to try and justify war with Iran which is what he was attempting to do. He is a danger to world peace! Maybe more so than the NUT Ahmadinejad

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: I hereby declare that this sinister regime is the banner of Satan. It is the banner of the Great Satan. All it does is to implement the orders of the criminal America and England. They think that the peoples are the same as they were 100 years ago. They are not aware that things have changed in the world. Today, all the peoples have awoken. The Iranian people is the standard-bearer of this awakening for all the peoples. As we can see, from the southernmost point in South America to the easternmost point in Asia, all the people are shouting a single cry. With placards in their hands and clenched fists, they shout: Death to Israel.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FckLO8HcNyo

6. Holocaust denial is reprehensible |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 08:18 PM by BunkerHill24
But what is equally reprehensible is Israel's treatment of the Palestinians. The problem, of course, is that the international community always focuses on Mr. Ahmadinejad's crazy rants, whilst ignoring the Palestinian plight. Strangely, supporters of Israel will always try to equate what Ahmedinejad says to the Palestinians.

.... to side with terrorists because they have some fucked up notion about them being an underdog.
The Holocaust is the only thing keeping the Palestinians alive. The Palestinians should be glad that Israel is led by people who are Holocaust conscious.
You know why? Because I'm not, and I would have depopulated the forfeited territory after it became clear that the attacks from there were not going to stop.

Is that your notion of the final solution needed for the Palestinian problem? Are they non-persons to you? And before you reply with a rage equal to a tempest in a cup, think carefully and re-read what you said.

If Mexicans were launching rockets into the US, I would be fully supportive of clearing the border of residents to whatever depth inside Mexico was necessary to protect the lives of US citizens. As it is, they are firing guns, putting up clotheslines (to behead border patrol), and hurling deadly missiles. Each time I see it I wonder why the border patrol doesn't spray the fence. But this is how governments do things. I am not a government, and am not bound by patience or diplomacy. My opinion has no effect.

22. I come from a country which did have a significant terrorism problem from one region for a long time |
|
i.e. the conflict between Protestant and Catholic 'paramilitary' groups in Northern Ireland, sometimes leading to planting of bombs and other violence on the mainland.
I am very glad that at least in recent years, England did not try to depopulate Northern Ireland!!!
The 'within-country terrorism' analogy is relevant as the Palestinian occupied territories are still under Israeli jurisdiction - not an independent enemy state.

my shock at your comments here.

Wow just wow. 'Depopulated them' - wonderful idea. NOT. Is is everyone who can be seen as an 'enemy' or whose government has acted violently, or just the Palestinians?
I feel sick right now.

19. You are right and I misread the statement above |
|
as Israel's treatment of Palestinians is equally reprehensible to the Holocaust. The poster said DENIAL of the Holocaust is equally reprehensible to the treatment of Palestinians. Big difference. I would even go so far as to say Israel's treatment of the Palestinians could me more reprehensible than Holocaust denial. (Sticks and stones theory).

Netanyahu is right about the nastiness of his attitudes, antisemitism and holocaust denial.
Unfortunately, Netanyahu is rarely right about much else, and some of his coalition partners even less so.
