The Usurping Crap Court Set to Overturn Any Semblance of Democracy in the U.S.
...in today's inbox:

Dear XXXXX:

As a committed supporter of Common Cause, you deserve to know the truth.

My heart is sick at the prospect. But, at some point before the end of the year, the Supreme Court could issue a decision that will shake our democracy to its very core.

In a case called Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the highest court in the land could overturn more than a century of law and pave the way for corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on direct campaigns to elect or defeat federal candidates.

Such an earth-shattering decision -- which many court observers believe we are about to see issued -- wouldn't just change the character of our elections. It would fundamentally undermine the strength of our democracy.

...

WHAT can we do about this - besides send $$$ to Common Cause or other orgs to fight it?

2. I guess this is what Repubs and bu$hit had in mind when choosing their "justices"
I wish there was SOMETHING that could be done. Between this and health care...I'm wondering if I should move to France.

5. I was glad to hear Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor express reservations about
corporate personhood.

Ginsburg mentioned reservations about corporations owned in part by foreign nationals being entitled to the same rights as natural human citizens of the US.

If the pro-corporate Roberts and his fellow conservatives rule in favor of the corporation in this case, we will just have to go on to revoke corporate personhood.

More info on corporate personhood at www.reclaimdemocracy.org .

limit their right to free speech (ie: lame$tream media) - which desperately needs to be done.

I'm for First Amendment - but with limitations for media - they do far too much damage - advocating hatred/violence and destroying people's lives and our country's ability to even have a reasonable national discourse in regards to issues like health care, or pre-Iraq invasion facts. With their advocacy of hatred and violence and spin, lies, and manipulation causing deaths to people such as Census workers, Dr. Tillman - et al - they've GONE TOO FAR. The media had a major hand in the killing of both of those people - and death threats to the Pres have increased ~400% from what I recently read. The SS is having trouble keeping up. The Rush Limbaughs, Glenn Becks, F*x Nuisance, et al are responsible - at least in part - for this. It's going TOO FAR. Corporations own the media. Corporations should NOT be considered persons NOR should they have the same rights as an individual person.

They need to LOSE their corprat personhood, they need to be BROKEN UP - 7 major mega-corps should NOT own all the media in this country - and the Fairness Doctrine or something similar needs to be (re)instated.

UNFORTUNATELY the same corprats that pwn the media - also pwn our "representatives" in government - AND the usurping court.

SO - I'm not holding my breath.

Any semblance of a Democracy or even a Democratic Republic in the United States was flushed down the toilet years ago. It no longer exists. I guess then, the Usurping court getting ready to stomp out what pissy little resemblance of it that remains ought not to upset me. But - it does.
