Spanking Republicans into stupidity!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 11:38 AM by Walk away
Dr. Nancy just reported that children who are spanked actually have lower I.Q.s than those who aren't.

According to The Slate Republicans are more likely to spank their children than Democrats.

"The two academics also measured those who favored spanking as discipline for children. They found that the "correlation between traditional parenting practices—the 'spare the rod, spoil the child' approach—and voting for President Bush in 2004 is remarkably strong."

And those styles had a geography. Massachusetts has the lowest percentage of people who favor the switch and the lowest percentage of voters for Bush. Those in Vermont, Rhode Island, and New York were also unlikely to spank and were very likely to vote for John Kerry.

Meanwhile, the spanking states—Idaho, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Montana, Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee, and Indiana—are, for the most part, reliably Republican even in this year's Democratic-trending election."

office because of spankings.

If Spanking isn't the reason for republican stupidity then what is?

11. You have cause and effect reversed: Republican stupidity is the reason for spanking.

12. Dr. Nancy tried to explain it in terms of causation
She proposed that in young minds just forming the ability to think, that spanking takes the place of explaining to the child and having it think things through. She also suggested that spanking causes stress and may have a psychological impact on the child. She seemed to suggest both a physiological and psychological component.

15. Doesn't make it so nor does it eliminate other possible modes of causality.
How about people are Republican because they are stupid and people spank because they are stupid?

I don't see any evidence that supports the other way 'round.

3. Hitting children is wrong. Period.
Violence simply teaches violence. It is nothing more than a stupidity propagation method. Hitting a child is nothing less than abuse - it is NOT discipline - it is ABUSE!

If you aren't willing to take the time to work with your children on a personal level to teach them what is accepted behavior and what is not, don't have children. You don't deserve them.

9. The cycle can be broken. My wife and I were both abused as children.
We've never hit ours and since they were tiny all we've ever heard is how well behaved they are. One look is far more powerful than a thousand lashes with a belt. You have to set down the rules, consistently enforce them, and make it clear when behavior isn't acceptable. Physical violence achieves none of this.

8. makes sense to me. stupid people voted for bush. stupid people
spank their kids because they don't consider it child abuse.

i wonder what the education level correlation would be if we tossed that in the mix as well.

you know, high school grads & college grads in Idaho, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Montana, Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee, and Indiana compared with Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, and New York.
