Pittsburgh Riot Police Trap University Students on a Staircase and Deploy Chemical Weapons (Video)
Police used teargas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets against University of Pittsburgh students last night. Many of the students were not part of any demonstration but bystanders; curious to find a mass of armed riot police on their campus. Others were pepper sprayed as they left college bars or as they walked down the sidewalk.

Series of excellent citizen videos and twitters of the G20 protests and the police riots. This is what a Police State looks like.

4. Wow. Police state in action. The next video where they roll in the pepper spray truck on the kids
is just sick. I hate this kind of shit - kids paying the price for rich people staying rich. Good that they got this on video.

Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 02:57 PM by reggie the dog
riot police broke up a peaceful protest, the cops shot a tear gas gernade and blinded someone in one eye. The public and members of the ruling party denounced it as abuse of power. Will that happen in the USA???? Obama should denounce this kind of police action. The universities are his base of support after all.

11. the cops can't tell the difference
between people doing nothing violent and the few assholes destroying shop windows??? Oh no, that's because most of the assholes breaking shit are probably agent sabeteurs.

12. It seems that they are able to tell the difference today.
http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/bigstory/archive/2009/09/25/marchers-gathering-for-north-side-rally.aspx

Note the parts where the story says "biggest demonstration in Pittsburgh since the Vietnam War" and "police look on" (as opposed to "jack-booted fascist police beat innocent protesters in the head").

The difference here is that the people last night were using violence. The much larger demonstration today was peaceful.

13. no, the big protest that the police looked on at
was not near the G 20, and stayed behind the bullshit, anti constitutional free speech barriers....that or the cops got bad press for gassing university students at their dorm buildings.

15. "Free speech" zones were also established in '99 in Seattle after police allowed provocatuers to
bust enough windows to cause a ruckus big enough to justify the swat team crackdown. Total crap.

16. Well then Clinton was as big of an ass
as George W. and Obama for not defending the citizens right to free speech. I hold the leaders of the parties responsable because they are supposed to be there to defend the constitution and the rights of Americans.

many people here still don't get it.

14. Their MO seems to be using any disruptive action to come in with riot gear and shut the whole thing
down. I've seen it multiple times in the US. We also see it with our local police forces. In just the last 6 months I've written multiple LTTEs in my local paper protesting the illegal blanket search of middle school students with drug dogs as well as their excessive use of tasers. They just got the damn things 2 months ago and every other day now someone else gets tased.

When I asked why they needed tasers in the first place I got blank stares. "What do you mean? They're provided for by federal grant. Why wouldn't we want them?" My answer was, "Because you'll use them. What did cops do for hundreds of years before tasers were invented?"

17. Does that make you wonder if people are not paid to do that?
Paid to start a litte disruption so that the cops can break everything up. As major protests in France unionists and journalist followed cops in regular clothing, coming out of cop busses, and starting to break shit, suddenly there was much less rioting at protests once the story leaked.....

20. Of course it does. Though I don't think they'd even have to pay them, just infiltrate the group
and give them a little encouragement. We're usually talking about younger, idealistic people in these groups who can be susceptible to manipulation.

23. Quite right
Just like they may or may not have done for 911, selling crack when it first started etc..... We should not think the USA is not manipulated like all of the countries south of it had been until the recent leftward surge.

27. Yes. The CIA sold the coke from Nicaragua to Freeway Ricky Ross in CA, who then made the crack.
And as far as I'm concerned, the book on 911 is not closed either. People here just don't want to know about what the US military and CIA has or purposely has not done in, off the top of my head: Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, Nicaragua, Chile, and Columbia. Nevermind their nefarious actions inside our own country.

Eventually, our ignorance and willingness to accept authority figures (from Presidents all the way down the TV 'news' reporters) is going to cost us dearly.

18. I bet that the cops doing this do not even realize what they
are doing, whom they are harming, or even see the big picture. A few may, but most do not. Like the union busters in the Grapes of Wrath, most just did it for the money without considering the bigger picture.....

10. In the second video you hear the robotic voice
telling everyone they must leave as the people hanging out doing nothing have been declared an illegal assembly. Fucking KKK has the right to rally in the USA and you cannot peacfully protest the running of the world to the advantage of the most wealthy without being declared an illegal assembly. If people cannot understand who rules the world when you see shit like this there is no hope. Fucking hell we had no permit in Chicago the day the war in Iraq started and we still blocked traffic on the 10 lane wide expressway known as Lake Shore Drive. Just as the cops began to herd us together and close off the circle I zig zagged my way up to the last staircase that had no cop on the other end, crossed unde the street and just as I got up a cop told me to stop. i ran all the way to the el carrying my communist party "no blood for oil" sign. What a shithole the USA has become, you cannot even peacefully express grievences to the ruling class. Not even with the left in power. HELLO, OBAMA????? THIS IS YOUR BASE, STAND UP FOR THE COLLEGE STUDENTS PEACEFULLY PROTESTING OR THE VIOLENT ANARCHISTS WILL JUST GET MORE AND MORE POPULAR.....
