Even Saxby Chambliss... yeah, THAT Saxby Chambliss... is giving FEMA high praise for its response in Georgia:

GOP senator has high praise for FEMA

The embattled agency gets a nice boost from a conservative Republican senator:

I’m listening to WSB Radio and its live broadcast of Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to the flooded areas of metro Atlanta.U.S. Rep. David Scott and U.S. Sens. Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss have spoken.

There’s no echo of the frustration expressed by Cobb County Commission Chairman Sam Olens on Thursday, about the days it took to get official federal attention.

Chambliss praised the Obama Administration for a response that was both “magnificent” and “quick.”

Isakson said he had spent last night on the phone with local officials, all of whom reported FEMA workers on the ground.

The one voice that was conspicuously absent: Gov. Sonny Perdue, who is in Panama, leading a state delegation to discuss the canal’s expansion, and its relationship with the port of Savannah. Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle filled in for Perdue during Biden’s visit, and received a shout-out from the vice president.

It’s hard to criticize the federal government for untimely response in the face of a crisis, when the governor thinks things are well enough under control to leave the country.

Compare and contrast Bush's ("heckuva job, Brownie") FEMA with Obama's.

...and a red state run by conservative Republicans ends up praising the federal government's response to a natural disaster.

Love it!

2. Well Obama didn't appoint an incompetent crony... makes all the difference in the world.

I hope republicans are learning the lesson that we DO need well-run government.

Bush-style government is little help... but when it's run by competent people, it works.

3. Actually I believe Obama appointed John Ellis aka "Jeb" Bush's EMD from here in FL.
Jeb is a scary man but unlike his daddy w/Andrew or his brother with Katrina, Jeb knew how to run a hurricane (in English AND Spanish...)

6. Well maybe he's Jeb's crony... but I doubt he's Obama's...

regardless, if he knows what he's doing, he doesn't count as an incompetent one. :)

7. He got someone with experience
Not to mention you do tend to learn from mistakes.. A repeat of Katrina would seem unlikely.

Plus locals probably did a better job than Nagin did in NO.

8. That's just it: Craig Fugate wasn't a typical BushCo crony - he actually knew what he was doing
as FL EMD. Obama recognized this and hired him to be FEMA director even though he had gotten the FL EMD job through Jeb.

9. Actually if I had been W I would have hired Jeb to be my FEMA director after he stopped being FL gov
but W isn't that smart or maybe Jeb is too ambitious to settle for that job.

11. The latter, I imagine.
From what I've read, Jeb was the son HW had picked out as next in line for the dynasty.

4. It's easier to run a successful FEMA when their success doesn't destroy the basis of your platform.
Just think-----could the R's be out there scaring people with a "government takeover" of healthcare, if we could just shoot back with, "Well, FEMA did a great job of saving lives during Katrina."

No, it's worth it to them to let thousands die and suffer to preserve their talking point that the government can only screw up everything it touches.

5. Now, what will the good ol' boy teabaggers think?

I'm still amazed they didn't start shooting at the FEMA workers.

And what will they do to Chambliss, after he praised the Obama administration's response?

10. Or hang them from trees with "fed" written on their chest.
... and Chambliss is from Georgia. He can't very well tell his constituents not to believe their lying eyes.
