Lieberman may vote Republican in 2008 presidential race
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman, a life-long Democrat until he became an Independent for the last election, said Sunday he would consider voting Republican in the 2008 presidential race.

"I'm open to supporting a Democrat, Republican, or even an Independent if there's a strong one," the U.S. Senator from Connecticut told "Fox News Sunday."

Lieberman ran for the Democratic party's president candidate in 2004. He became a shining star of the Democratic Party in 2000 when he served as then-Vice President Al Gore's running mate.

But his open support for President Bush on numerous issues, particularly the Iraq war, has ostracized many Democrats. He lost the Democratic primary in his re-election bid last year and had to run as an Independent to maintain his seat.

Joe voting third party in 08, necessitating that his supporters burn him in effigy and ensuring that their heads explode. Maybe he'll vote for Nader...:D

12. Democrats can gain several Senate seats in 2008. If Joe...
keeps this up, he will find himself without that chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.

16. That is probaby the second best thing about the 2008 election
Tons of repunk Senators are up for re-election - very good chance we can pick up even more seats - so when we have a 3, 4 or 5 or more seat majority - Holy Joe LIEberman will no longer be able to hold the Dems hostage and we'll be able to put a fork in him - he will be DONE - I'm only sorry the fork didn't go in November 2006 - I am SO SICK OF HIM

First best thing of 2008 no matter who wins it won't be the dumbass....

20. We could have up to 59 Senate seats.
Realisitically, it looks more like 54-56. Still, it's a strong majority.

13. Isn't it strange..
that what is actually a fairly noble idea 'elect the best man for the job' sounds so self-serving and self-righteous coming from Liberman. As far as I'm concerned if the Democrats are as successful in 2008 as they were in 2006 in picking up seats in the Senate (no longer have to worry about who Liberman votes with) I would strip Liberman of all committee positions and any standing with the Democratic Party. Its funny that on one hand you have Bernie Sanders as an independent who seems to truly believe in the position whereas Liberman just calls himself because it currently works for him politically.

18. "would consider" .. as if!
Lieberman is a lying dirt bag. He's using his committee chairmanship to block Katrina investigations. He's doing *'s dirty work. Some people believe that we will lose our majority if we strip him of his chair. Well, he's gonna obstruct no matter what. He's just gonna play us until it's too late; and we, apparently, are gonna let him.

22. what he said on Fox News with Wallace
Here's where I am and maybe why it's — I am genuinely an Independent. I agree more often than not with Democrats on domestic policy. I agree more often than not with Republicans on foreign and defense policy. I'm an Independent.

Question, do you ever question whether you should continue to maintain your support for the Democratic majority in the Senate?

LIEBERMAN: Well, I made a decision last year after the Democratic primary that I wasn't going to let it end there, and I went on to run as an Independent, and thanks to the people of Connecticut of all parties, I was elected.

So I consider myself today an Independent-Democrat, and I'm staying in the Democratic Party because I believe in the historic principles and commitments of the party to be both progressive here at home and muscular, strong and principled in the world.

I'm a Harry Truman, JFK, Scoop Jackson and Bill Clinton Democrat.
