Poll question: There's a 100% chance of rain in the forecast
Should I:

a) Not believe it since I have outdoor activities planned this weekend.

b) Change my plans.

c) Buy a raincoat.

I'm intentionally posting this in GD since I think it's applicable to a lot of discussions here, especially any that have to do with peak oil and climate change.

BTW, the plans in question are a 90 mile bike ride to benefit the National MS Society.

3. You have to use a correction factor for rain forecasts.
For some reason, weather forecasters predict rain at a much higher rate than actual rain occurs. (I've noticed, because I like rain.) Here's the conversion table between the prediction and the true probability:

0-50% chance of rain predicted = 0%
60% chance = 30%
70% chance = 40%
80% chance = 60%
90% chance = 75%
100% chance = 90%

So, you just might be OK!

9. You forgot the additive planned-activity component:
Planning an outdoor wedding? Add 90% to Probability of Precipitation
Woke up with a headache and want the kids to play outside? Add 75%
Just washed the car? Add 50%
Neighbor kids TPed your house in the night? Add 25%
Planning to stay in anyway? No change to PoP
Lawn is dry and needs water? Subtract 25%
Entire state is in drought and reservoirs near empty? Subtract 75%
Want to avoid someone else's outdoor wedding? Subtract 90%

4. I'm biased.
Since my momma has MS, I say: ride on! But, maybe wear yer rubberz. If you don't want to get damp, that is.

5. Go for the ride, knowing that it's likely you'll get wet, then watch the afternoon
games after a nice hot shower...

8. Actually, on a 90 mile bike ride, I'd probably welcome a little bit of rain
Just as long as it's not the pouring down, raining sheets, visibility near zero kind.

11. Don't believe the hype, but also wear your rubbers.
After all, even on a charity bike ride, one should still practice safe sex. ;-)

15. After 90 miles on a bike, I'm not sure I'll be in the mood for that
Besides, I'm one of those boring old monogamous people that has no need for condoms.

Haven't tried sex while riding a bike though; that might be a bit unsafe.
