1. Despite what I hope, and maybe because of what I fear: Never.
I just don't see American interests giving it up like that. It would be nice if they did, but look at the size of that mega-goddamned embassy we're building! Practically a new wonder of the military/industrial complex world.

2. We have a military around the world. The question is loaded and misleading.

13. Okay, Miss Semantics. We don't have a military presence in every country.
My meaning was real clear; you understood my point. You were simply being pissy.

4. I don't think they're being as unfair as you might intimate. Due to the economic...
...problems the U.S. facing we have greatly reduced the number of troops in allied countries, like Germany for instance. Of course, American troops on a foreign ally's soil represents a protection from an external threat while in Iraq American troops act as a quasi-police/military force to protect from elements within the country.

At some point, the Iraqi government has to either stand on its own two legs or fall. Right now, American troops are, just like in Afghanistan, propping up the ruler we'd like them to have. I viewed the question as related to when the military presence for propping up the government will end.

15. The poll question was so poorly phrased that I don't know what's being asked.
We will have a military presence in Iraq for a long, long time. But, our combat operations there are almost finished.

6. I voted "Never" because "Someday, but not for many years"
was not a choice.

"Never" is obviously not accurate.
