I'm thinking the G20 protest tactic is way off in design.
I don't necessary support all the aims and claims of the protestors, but I really hate seeing US citizens mistreated, even if I do suspect that a great many of them are angry whiny little overaged goth creatures and recycled hippies that I wouldn't get along with.

Seems to me that the biggest tactical error in all of this, is agreeing to fight on the day and time the enemy expects you.

If the protestors were to hit these cities a week before or a week after this kind of meeting, the city wouldn't have the extra resources on hand, or the money, to take on the protestors. The protestors could make it so that no city would agree to host.

1. The intent is not to 'hit these cities'.
The intent is to protest the autocratic anti-democratic meetings of the planet plutocracy.

4. The rulers gathered are aware of the message of the protests, and presumably impressed...
.... with themselves. What better message to these rulers that to have other cities ask them to stay away?

is 'This is a gangster convention'.

2. Why in the world would the protesters not want to protest DURING the event?

3. The protestor message precedes and survives the event, does it not?
Or do the 66% of the world's population on conspire to enslave the other 34% on a given day and time?

5. The protesters hardly get any coverage as it is.
Were they to show up a week before the gangster convention they would get no coverage at all.
