1. Any thread that is NOT related to the dead census worker
Until some facts about the death of Mr Sparkman are revealed I think we should all just STFU about wing nut anti government plots, drug deals gone bad or anything else.

11. Threads with titles ...
that are unusual or which grab my interest. Rec or Unrec doesn't make the choice. Subject matter does.

I don't look at the recs/unrecs unless somebody brings it up inside the thread. They don't really matter.

22. Threads with lots of swear words in the subject line.
Threads about Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin/Joe Wilson or some other rightwing doofus of the day.

Threads whining about other threads.

23. I like to click on new threads, you know, the ones that haven't already been posted 3 or 4 times,
or that haven't already been posted yesterday or the day before.

I don't pay much attention to Recs because threads that merit Recs will get plenty of them. If it's a thread I like or especially agree with and has 4 Recs I'll pitch in the 5th. I'll unRec threads that whine about Rec/unRec just on principle because that is old and decided.

I just go for the topic, or, in certain instances, the author. Some people here consistently post things that interest me, plus they're good writers. (Octafish comes to mind -- I love his historical perspective.)

27. This poll is putting a damper on the anti-unrec's arguement....
on how the unrec feature stifles debate and is a method on shutting down a thread.

29. It sure is...
I'm thinking it ought to be saved for posterity and dragged out each time someone gets a hankering for bringing up that whole stupid argument again.

And again.

And again.

I know what their argument is...it allegedly stifles freedom of speech...

bullshit.

It's an ego thing and that's all. OMG...how dare someone UNREC my thread!!!????

anyway, this poll certainly is proving a point.

28. I've never once looked
at the "Greatest Threads" page. Mainly because I don't give two shits what someone else thinks is "great".

Usually I read threads that look like they have lots of potential for humor and hilarity. I get depressed often and sometimes it's the best way to get into a good mood for the day.

Often I'll read the ones whose subject matter is of great interest to me personally

And, like someone else here, I like getting the scoop on what the Freepers are up to. I guess it's sort of like the DU equivalent of loving Classic literature but occasionally peeking at "Superman" comic books. :7

33. How shallow for anyone to select a topic by the Rs or the Us
and this is supposed to be a community that judges opinions on the merit.

I just look at the title of the topics. Often I go to the "latest" page that, thankfully, is devoid of these shallow marks.

34. I look at the title, and if it possibly might be interesting, next I look at Recs compared to posts.
If there are many Recs but not a lot of posts, then I sort of feel obligated to read those, because those are most likely real gems.

But, Attention-Seeking Title, with few recs and many posts will make me tell myself to lose interest, for my own good, and, for my own value of time. :D

35. I start at the top of GD and "read" my way down.
Occasionally I'll peek over at the recs if the subject seems controversial in order to try to guess what I might find inside, then I click on it to read it for myself. If GD is getting stale I'll bounce out to the Discuss level to see what's new for all forums. Once every half-hour or so I may click on the Greatest logo at the top to see what's going on there - often a good thread from GD-P or LBN will be here that I didn't see since I usually hang in GD.
