Got certificate? Birther group runs TV ad questioning Obama's birthplace
http://rawstory.com/blog/2009/09/got-certificate-birther-group-runs-tv-ad-questioning-obamas-birthplace/A group promoting the notion that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States is running a half-hour infomercial in seven southern states urging viewers to send them $30 to fight for the cause.
As TalkingPointsMemo's Justin Elliott reported in two blog entries Friday, the United States Justice Foundation, a group devoted to proving the current occupant of the White House is not the legitimate president because he isn't a "natural-born citizen," began running the infomercial on Sept. 10, and has already convinced 1,500 to 2,000 people to send the organization a $30 donation.
For every donation, the group will send a fax to Attorney General Eric Holder, asking him to demand a legitimate birth certificate from the president. The donor will also receive a bumper sticker that reads "Got a birth certificate?"

Blogger "dday" at Crooks and Liars points out that the infomercial cost only $100 per spot to air on KLBK, a CBS affiliate in Lubbock, Texas. That means the cost of airing the infomercial can be recouped with just a handful of donations.
"Getting four suckers to fork over $30 for nothing covers their whole expense, and looking at the production values, producing the episode didn't cost much more than $100 either," dday writes. "This is pure conservative hucksterism, where a few people make money off of whipping up fears for no real purpose."
