I know that the vast majority of DUers support things like unemployment and the food stamp program so my hat is off to you guys 'n gals.

Getting food stamps will make a huge difference to me in my quest to eat properly and get healthier.

It was so nice to be able to walk around the grocery store and get what I wanted instead of having to watch every single penny. I got Kashi cereal instead of the store brand stuff, some frozen Tilapia and a small smoked Turkey breast that I had shaved for sandwiches, I even got some of the sinfully good Edie's Lime bars that I haven't had in almost a year, these are real luxuries for me.

Here's the two sites I'm using to determine (mostly anyway :) ) my diet.

Edited to add: Here is the link to my OP about my experience in applying for food stamps for anyone who might be interested and hasn't already read it.

1. You should thank the Taxpayers , which includes Republicans.

That is the great thing about Socialism , we might disagree , but we help each other in times of need.

Hope things get better for you soon.

2. Thanks for the good wishes..
Things are not so bad really (or at least they could be a lot worse, at least I'm pretty healthy), I grew up not exactly poor but my folks were pretty frugal so it's not a new experience for me to economize.

I'm a taxpayer too (death 'n taxes, eh?) so I guess I should thank myself as well.. :)

begrudge Fumesucker a slice of bread. Or hadn't you noticed?

I've just been reading the account by a Canadian who served in the French Foreigh Legion of his experiences with them. Some, of course, were racists and plain mean-spirited anyway, and despite the truly horrific poverty in Chad and Togo, two places he was stationed in, some of his fellow Legionnaires would crush the most insignificant little items they didn't want, when leaving those countries, rather than leave them there for any of the people who worked there. It's a mindset, and diabolically ugly, whether perpetrated by an obligatory tax-payer or not.

Gratitude to people who give willingly is always good, but struggling recipients don't owe it to anyone, taxpayer or not. God made this world and its bounty for all his children, not just those with the sharpest elbows. Consequently, it is, always the person who gives to a fellow human being in need who is privileged, not the other way round.

PS:

There's no need to deify the tax-payer with a capital "T".

4. I agree with skittles
It's great when tax dollars can help someone.
When I think of all of the trillions of dollars
spent on defense and war it makes me cringe.

I'm glad you're eating healthier.
