6. Intellectuals? William Safire? LOL

A hack writer who somehow kissed Tim Russert's ass enough to be invited as a semi regular member of the Meat the Press Sycophant's Panel.

Sorry he croaked but he sure as hell was no intellectual.

8. That's setting the bar pretty low don't you think?
Compared to Rush, you and I are Stephen Hawking.

11. Rush Limbaugh is the source for a majority of Republican thought
He is a knuckle dragging imbecile but everday the republican masses get their ridiculous talking points from him.

30 years ago they used to get it from their newspaper columnist now they get it from radio.

12. Sorry, Safire and Rush do not belong in the same sentence...
...unless you're discussing intellectual polarities. Safire may have been a rightie, but he was no Rush. That league is reserved for teh stoopid.

9. I liked Bill Sapphire...
...and also, as another poster said, some of the conservative intellectuals.

The prospect of lean government and fiscal spending is understandable.

The problems is that zombie zealots have mutated conservatism into some perversion.

Besides, what in the hell is conservative about today's Republicans, even the Republicans
who claim to be conservative? They explode the deficit, use government to infringe on
the rights of the people and they've trashed the Constitution--led by George Bush. There's
nothing Conservative about their politics.

They bat around "family values" and abortion. However, those issues are only discussed as a means
to whip up the base for elections. They talk the talk regarding these issues, but they do NOTHING
about them. They only use these issues to keep religious people on their side.

The left is guilty of this as well. Issues like the environment and reproductive rights are rarely
acted upon, but they're used to pacify the base and cull votes.

The corporations have pretty much won.

There really isn't any room for intellectuals on either side, any more. RIP Mr. Safire.

13. It is called the middle
Edited on Sun Sep-27-09 02:35 PM by AllentownJake
In reality the middle is nothing more than corporatism. Support Big Business in every way.

True conservatives are as dangerous to the corporate hegemony to big business as true liberals. Of the federal budget how much goes from the tax payer right into corporate treasuries in the form of subsidies.

If you really had a true idealogical conservative President half the corporations in America would be bankrupt in 2 years.
