Need source for info correlation btwn war and tv news viewership

Watching Meet the Press today I got the feeling Gregory was almost drooling at the thought of escalating Afghanistan or ratcheting up tensions in Iran.

I know it isn't anything new, so I was hoping someone might have a somewhat authoritative reference for someone that has looked at the systemic motives behind media coverage of war.
