Lucy of 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' Fame Dies

<snip>
LONDON (AP) -- The real life Lucy from the Beatles' song ''Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'' has died after a long fight against lupus.

The death of Lucy Vodden at age 46 has been announced by St. Thomas' Hospital in London, where she was treated.

The hospital said Monday she died after battling the disease for years.

Vodden came to the attention of John Lennon when the Beatles' young son Julian came home from school one day with a drawing that he said was ''Lucy in the sky with diamonds.''

1. LSD died????
;) I'm just kidding because I remember being fascinated (at 10) when my big brother told me "the real meaning" of that song. I'm a dork.

3. The story seems doubtful.
If Lucy Vodden was 46, that means she was born in 1963. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was on the Sgt. Pepper's album, which was released 6/1/1967. Julian Lennon's birthday is 4/8/1963, so would've hebeen just a bit over 3 years old when this song was written and recorded.

Not sure what school he was attending at 3 years old with putatively chatty Lucy Vodden.

6. Don't know about that but,
my three year old boy attended preschool last year and was head over heels for a child a year older than him named Luca. he told me the reason that he loved her was her lips! Never underestimate our children.

12. Many times.....
My kids both have wicked smart verbal skills in part because their mother never shuts up. Dialog between children is hilarious if you take the time to listen to it and yes they are very capable of relaying conversations at three years old. Sometimes all it takes is for the parents to take the time to ask their kids about their day....They are a fountain of information.

13. LOL. Your kid isn't making up word plays to disguise the name of psychotropic drugs, surely.

At any rate, the wikipedia page on Julian Lennon has got what is most like a more accurate version of the story. Julian came home one day with a picture he had drawn of his friend Lucy surrounded by stars. John likely came up with the too-cute word play regarding L.S.D. :hi:

though. :)

10. Sounds like a nursery school -
or "school" meant daycare. Common these days - not sure if it was so common for kids that age to be in school in the 1960's (but they were high income so maybe so). Good song though no matter what the origin.

I really don't get it, everyone knows the Beatles used acid for awhile. It's no big deal to finally admit the truth.

All for the low low price of $10 a hit.

Don't worry, I stopped my LSD experimentation about 20 years ago. I only needed about 10 tries to get "it". :)

23. Maybe it was $5..
I've never been the type that hangs around with drug dealers, so everything was acquired through a 3rd party. I suppose there could have been some mark-up going on. No big deal, the experience was well worth the $50-$100 I spent.

24. Well, I was the type
I think it probably had something to do with me being an undergrad, a bartender at very popular student hang-out and living in a fairly liberal town. I mean, what could I do? I was at work. They came to me. It wasn't like I went and sought them out. And, fwiw, I usually got discounts on most stuff. One of the perks of being a bartender is everyone wants to be your friend.

16. Sometimes there's more than one explanation.
i.e. the question "Who is Joe Wilson?" would have dissimilar but correct answers depending on whether your were talking to Valerie Plame or to the unfortunate voters of South Carolina.
