Repugs don't like Stimulus Signs at CO road projects
This is just incredible. Note the first sentence in the article. Great way to frame the story Channel 7.

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/21130250/detail.html

DENVER -- Rolling your eyes at the large highway signs promoting Colorado's stimulus spending "Putting America To Work" at road construction sites?

State highway officials insist the promotional signs are required and will stay up -- despite complaints from Republicans that the signs amount to political boosterism for a stimulus spending package driven by ruling Democrats in Washington.

There are dozens of the signs on road construction projects across the state saying the projects are funded by the mammoth $787 billion federal stimulus package. Medium-sized signs cost about $750 to $1,250, with large signs costing up to $2,000.

snip

It's a small expense compared to the $191 million in stimulus money spent on road and bridge projects so far in Colorado. But some critics of the stimulus package call the stimulus signs a thinly veiled advertisement for the spending.

What a bunch of crybabies! $55000 total cost of signs for $191 Million in road building funds is a minuscule amount. It would barely pay for one trailer full of asphalt but the Repugs are crying foul because people now know that our infrastructure is being repaired with the Stimulus Money.

I'm happy that someone pointed out that that $55000 went to small businesses who made the signs.

Idiots.

1. GAWD forbid that the Democrats are caught doing something that's
good for America and Americans!

Unless the signs say "this project is paid for by Democrats". . . they are just S.O. of L.

4. I don't roll my eyes, I smile everytime I see those signs...
It's putting people to work AND improving our deteriorating roads. I hope the Repugs choke when they see those signs.

6. That's kind of hard to do!
I-25 is about it! :) Now that you mention it over the last few years there has been a TON of construction work on I-25 through the Springs. Not that it didn't need it but I never heard the fundies down there squawking about the Socialist road improvements. Imagine that.

19. El Paso County, where they renamed....
.... the local stretch of socialized interstate, the "Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway."

:puke:

And the local fundie nutjobs can't stand to see all of those well-paid construction workers out there, either.

5. It's required in the ARRA capital construction grant rules.
They just don't like the reminder that Dems did something worthwhile.

All they have to show is the signs in Iraq "This war brought to you by US Republicans."

Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 05:08 PM by doc03
about those signs for weeks. I have been seeing similar signs for years at Federally Funded projects, since we have a Democratic President they all a sudden are worried about the cost of the signs. The truth is they don't want that damn n----- to get credit for jobs. The Rethugs can deny it but that's what they think I hear it nearly every day.

edit: It's hell being surrounded by f----g Rethugs.

This is a blue collar area that is 2/3 registered Democrat yet when a black guy runs they vote for McCain and they just love Palin. I don't have any other explanation other than racism. It is common to hear the n-word used openly here. At any gathering of people someone will make some remark about Obama and if you call them on it everyone gangs up on you, you just have to bite your tongue.

23. Same where I come from. I thought you were from rural CO...
I grew up in NE Oklahoma and it's the same there. I keep reminding my friends who are working on the public projects and getting new trucks through Cash For Clunkers that it was Obama looking out for the little guy (which they all are). Their usual response is to spout more racist BS they're being fed daily by their heroes Rush, Hannity and Beck. It's a shame because these guys just don't know any better. These are in all other ways very good people.

25. No kidding - they finally fixed up the side streets that has been needing repairs for over 20 years
After the numbnuts decided that they NEEDED to build a few McMansions around my neighborhood.

And as far as I know, about 1/3 is unsold.

Last one I saw was on 1st and Elm at $1.7M. Highway robbery.

The houses in the surrounding areas are worth about 600-900K easy. My parent's are at the 650 range, mine is 350 (since it's a tiny ranch/bungalow)

20. Let's be fair, now
Surely they were in similar high dudgeon in 2001 when the advances on anticipated tax refunds were mailed out by the Republican Congress and George W. Bush with a self-puffing letter about how this money in your pocket was being provided by the benevolence of Bush, the Great and Powerful. Right?

In case you forgot:

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/06/19/tax.letter.text/

They were on this like white on rice, weren't they? Weren't they? Hello?

$2,000?

The freeper whining notwithstanding, I figured those temporary signs were a couple hundred bucks tops.
