Dodge's HEMI Most Eco-Friendly Engine In A Half-Ton
Dodge's HEMI Most Eco-Friendly Engine In A Half-Ton

Using EPA carbon footprint figures, SAE peak horsepower and torque, and published engine displacement, we evaluated the popular engines available in every half-ton truck to determine which engines offer the best compromise between power and environmental efficiency.
Dodge's "gas-guzzling" 5.7 HEMI came out on top because it produces significantly less carbon annually than engines with similar size and power.

3. Gas guzzling is right. My brother says his truck automatically starts turning into....
every gas station it passes. Price ya pay if you have to have a pickup for your business.

Hey at least it's green according to the article.

5. "Gee, it wasn't Toyota?"
Oh, Toyota is still more environmentally friendly.

It's just that the Dodge has seventy more horsepower.

Notice in the article... the Dodge with the same horsepower as the Toyota produces more pollution.

6. I once saw a Toyota motor partly disassembled
I notices it was a DOHC with the spark plugs top-center, and the tops of the pistons were dome-shaped. In other words, it was essentially a 4 cylinder Hemi.

20. Toyota's notorious for stealing others ideas
They copied the old Chevy Powerglide transmission part for part. Even the Prius may be stolen technology as this lawsuit alleges,< http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/daily-news/090908-Lawsuit-Threatens-to-Halt-Sales-of-Toyota-Prius/>

22. It was not.
A hemi engine has a dome-shaped head and the pistons are flat. Only Chrysler uses that engine configuration because it's a beloved engine for Chrysler fans--the 426 Hemi was a famous big block--but in the 21st century it's really not the best way to make an engine. You know Dodge Hemis need two spark plugs per cylinder to pass emissions?

19. Give credit where it's due, the HEMI does well vs Toyota and even hybrids
The HEMI ties Toyotas best gas mileage engine in hwy gas mileage while simultaneously beating Toyota's most powerful engine in power.

10. the hemispherical combustion chamber
manages a very complete and efficient burning of the fuel. And yeah, it does take a bit of fuel to turn up those kind of torque numbers ;)

13. What is ECO-friendly about a vehicle that not used for its intended purpose?
Most trucks and SUV's are OVERKILL because they are used as commuter vehicles, not load carriers or off-roaders, like they are designed for. But I guiess it makes people feel good to get 20mpg in their truck while commuting to work......

I think this is a made up "fact". :hi:

I wish I had a nickel for every wasted 4X4 parked in the driveways all over my town.
