Bank suspends dealings with ACORN housing entity

WASHINGTON – Bank of America Corp. is suspending its work with the housing affiliate of embattled community organizing group ACORN. The decision comes as three Republicans in Congress ask Bank of America and 13 other financial institutions to give Congress a complete accounting of their dealings with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now or its affiliates.

In a statement, Bank of America said it would not enter into any further agreements with ACORN Housing Corp. until the bank is satisfied all issues have been resolved. ACORN Housing Corp. and Bank of America have worked together for years on mortgage foreclosure issues.

"We completely understand why our lending partners like Bank of America want assurances that the recent allegations against us won't happen again," ACORN Housing Corp. said. "We are taking a number of steps to ensure this, including providing ethics training to all of our staff."

....(snip)....

"The Republicans are trying to intimidate banks that have stepped up to help stop the foreclosure crisis," said ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis. "These same Republicans ignored ACORN's warnings about predatory lending and the foreclosure crisis, then gave Wall Street free rein and are now obstructing efforts to help families." ..........(more)

4. This is what Repukes do.
They make sure absolutely anything they disagree with isn't funded properly and/or touts it as an ineffective waste, and then triumphantly point at it when it fail as proof that the organization (or government) was corrupt/ineffective all along. They fulfill their own prophecies of doom by dooming that which might have prophectic vision.

5. Why don't they learn from Republicans?
What they need to do is suspend services for a while, and lay low. Six months later, re-organize with a shuffled board of directors, move some of the honchos around so the locals don't know them, get a new name, and go back to helping people, as per usual. Faux news will declare them dead, parade around waving their dicks at how powerful and influential they are, the wingnuts will find a new target, and justice will be "served."

Meanwhile, the new Society for Empowering Everyone, Damnit (SEED) will step in to fill the gap that bad old ACORN left behind...

7. When I read this at lunch the first thing I thought of was "Defund the left" as stated in...
Thomas Frank's "The Wrecking Crew:How Republicans Govern"

This was Abramoff's calling card back at the beginning of his career-attacking student groups particularly Nader's organization who were successful in getting drinking bottle deposits established. All of Abramoff's money came from the bottlers.
