Israel Demands a Nuclear Monopoly...
To understand why, it’s necessary to understand what a Nuclear Monopoly means to current Israeli military strategy. And perhaps the easiest way to understand this is to consider Hezbollah and Lebanon in 2006.

While Israel was giving Lebanon its, ahem, object lesson, Hezbollah was launching Iranian supplied short range missiles on small Israeli border towns. Iran had longer-range missiles that could have reached, say, Tel Aviv, but they didn’t supply them. They didn’t supply them because Israel made it clear that if missiles fell on Tel Aviv, nukes would fall on Tehran. Now, if Iran also had nukes, well, that would have been a hollow threat. But, as it was, Hezbollah was given only a modest supply of short-range missiles.

So, Israel’s ability to use its technologically advanced weapons on its weaker neighbors is premised on keeping its stronger adversaries at bay with a nuclear threat. In the view of Right Wing Israelis, this is an existential issue. To them, Iran with Nukes is Game Over.

1. The latest Israeli F-15I Strike Eagle (called Thunder)
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 06:41 PM by Rick Myers
has been nuke capable for years. I'm sure they are ready. They would use the Strike Eagles for their precision. But, Israel also has sub-launched cruise missiles. I'm not endorsing a strike, but I expect it soon.

on edit: I do not mean to imply that Israel will use nukes first, they will hit Qum with penetrator weapons. If missiles launch in their direction, all bets are off. They have the sat resources to detect and kill anything Iran launches.

2. Netanyahu made a secret visit to Russia recently....
and then, a week or two later, Obama announced the withdrawal of the "defensive" missiles from Poland.

Deals are being made...

3. Nuclear weapons are the stuff of Doomsday
Whether justifiably or not, should Israel use nuclear weapons, it could begin a cascade of events the likes of which we can barely imagine. Two nations that would not stand by, IMO, are Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. These two are why A.Q. Khan built the "Islamic Bomb," the former doing the work the latter doing the financing.
