How Meg Whitman is like Sonny Bono (VIDEO)
Whether you think Meg Whitman's abysmal voting record is a big deal or not, many Republicans at this past weekend's CA GOP convention kept saying the same thing: She's got to come up with a better answer.
Namely, they said she has got to answer "Why?" Or at least something better than this line from her press conference Saturday: "I said what I'm going to say about it, so thank you for that."
On Monday, the Whitman camp trotted out what they hope is a more favorable comparison: Sonny Bono. In their daily missive to reporters Monday, Team Whitman notes that the late Sonny's wife, Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, told The Desert Sun that Meg and Sonny shared a proclivity for not voting:
"(He) hadn't even registered to vote before he ran for mayor (of Palm Springs)," Bono Mack recalled Sunday at the California Republican Party Convention in Indian Wells. "He went on to be a successful mayor and a successful member of Congress." The controversy about Whitman's voting record became a major focus at the convention on Saturday, with the former eBay CEO offering repeated apologies, but no explanations for her nonvoting record. "For me the big issue is experience," said Bono Mack, who is co-chair of Whitman's campaign. "Her leadership issues here are why she's an amazing candidate for governor."
