I know Obama's had his hands full with this whole health insurance deal, but don't his other priorities look just a bit misaligned right now?

That's for the Justice Department.

12. The reason this has to be repeated, I guess, is due to the forums being filled with
the same shit you'll find on your Yahoo and AOL homepage, or the pages of USA Today where the LIFE section is all about celebrities! Makes me crazy.

7. Every city in recent memory that has hosted the Olympics...
...has had to spend more in infrastructure, utilities, security, etc. than the Olympics are really worth.

I love the idea of the Olympics on American soil, too, but I'm not convinced this is going to translate into any long-term benefit for Chicagoland.

16. Not true...
Los Angeles made a profit... and used the profit to fund a sports library and the Amateur Athletic Foundation.

It's like anything else, it's all about who manages it... China went over the top; I'm sure they lost a bundle.

20. You have a good point
If Chicago does get the 2016 Olympics, I hope it works out well for them. But I still can't help but wonder what signal Obama is sending here.

19. Get out of Holder's way, that's what
He pretty much said he doesn't want to see indictments against anyone from OLC, so that sounds like he's typing Holder's hands.

Do you really think it would take that long to prosecute CIA torturers? geez! it's not like he has a whole team or anything that he delegates to deal with this..

21. Are you sure Obama will be gone 48 hours?
At 6:00pm tonight during the WMAQ (Chicago NBC affiliate) newscast they said the President would be in Copenhagen to answer questions after the winner is announced and then return immediately to DC.

I'm as upset as anyone about the lack of prosecution of those cretins that made torture acceptable for Americans, but I don't see how you can blame Obama for going to Copenhagen to try and persuade the IOC to give the 2016 Summer Games to his adopted hometown.

My husband is unemployed right now and if we get the Olys, maybe, just maybe he'll get called back to work. There are an awful lot of unemployed construction workers in Chicago right now and getting the Games would be literally a godsend for some of them.

The perennial whiners.

We can't even celebrate the Olympics without someone sticking their head out and crying about it.

It's getting old fast.

34.  I don't feel it's his place to be dealing with the olympics
If so why Chicago , why not New Orleans or some other state like Michigan. But then the way things are going by 2016 this country just might all be down the drain.
