Facebook lied to the Associated Press
Edited on Mon Sep-28-09 08:33 PM by RandySF
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2009/09/28/secret_service_probing_facebook_poll_on_obama/

"The question was not created by Facebook, but by an independent person using an add-on application that has been suspended from the site.

"The third-party application that enabled an individual user to create the offensive poll was brought to our attention this morning," said Barry Schnitt, Facebook's spokesman for policy."

The truth is that Facebook was notified as early as last night by multiple persons. As soon as I read about it late this morning (PDT, when it was reportedly "taken down"), I went to Facebook and the poll was still active. And it was still active AFTER I called the Secret Service and the agent on the phone told me they were aware and investigating. While I don't think they endorsed the poll, they were caught flat-footed and spent the day doing damage control. They better be more vigilant in the future.

11. Whatever. The founder of facebook is a right-wing prick. They allowed the "OMG, Obama in schools"
,...bullshit to carry on and on.

I thought it was a great site to stay in touch with family but,...as I paid better attention to the "games" and other crap,...I quit doing facebook.

Too bad. Hey, all forums engage to make money, including this one.

16. THANK you for confirming this. I just posted a question to the maker of the poll...
He claims it went up on Sunday but I could have SWORN I saw comments as early as the end of August but I didn't have a confirming screenshot like I would normally take to prove things.

Why is he lying about that... seriously? I am just confused.

If it was only up a couple days, hey, not so bad! I got a pm from another poster saying they'd seen that also.

19. Probably, but it still makes him look bad because...
if you make an elaborate post on the Daily freakin Kos laying out the "facts", where many thousands of people will read it including media, some of who actually saw the dates of comments on the poll, why not just lay them ALL out and just be completely truthful? So, let's say it was up since August and he wasn't alerted till the story exploded... with thousands of polls he really couldn't be expected to know it existed and he'd have a decent case for it if nobody alerted. I could understand if it slipped by him. However, lying about a relatively small thing like the day it went up just makes him look suspicious, you know? Like, okay, you're lying about how long it was up... why should I believe anything else you say? Ehhh. I know WHY he'd do it... it just doesn't make much sense to me is all, I guess. :)

I doubt he'll reply to me though.

14. I thought everyone knew...
... that a majority of Facebook users are either Cons or cons. Every time an Obama-related poll goes up, around 70% respond anti-Obama.

Glossary --

Cons: individuals who stand to lose if progressives succeed (see "ruling class")

cons: individuals who have neither the time nor the inclination to get informed (forget get involved) about what is happening in our country and view any significant change as a threat to their lifestyle.
