Gen. Stanley McChrystal needs to STFU, quit or be fired

McChrystal Says He's Talked With Obama Once Since Taking Afghanistan Command

Apparently, McChrystal thinks he should be on the Presidents direct dial list. But many vets (like me) know that he is out of line. His job is to enforce policy not make it, shape it, or publicly speak about it. If he insists on publicizing his problems on Faux snooze then he has to go. And for the record General, we'll get over it. Believe me, he would not tolerate anybody below him making such statements to the press about his performance.

I guess Bush had nothing better to do than to listen to war stories, but Obama has a few more things to actually get accomplished, so General, STFU.

This is what happens to our officer corps after years of low morale. Bad officers have risen to the top and the entire structure of the Army is now about political posturing. Unwinnable wars do that to an Army.

1. The hig ranking military that disagreed with Bush/Cheney policies resigned
Before they talked about their objections in public. McChrystal should follow their examples.

8. My thoughts exactly!
Truman fired MacArthur, who was a living legend--one of the greatest generals in history. McChrystal is a no talent piece of shit loser.

One of Obama's heroes is Lincoln who fired a multitude of generals.

5. BIG KICK
The General needs to be reminded what the words "Commander In Chief" really mean.
And another one we need to be concerned about is Betray us.
He's laying in the weeds, and he's going to be a hole card for these bastards.
I smell it coming.

6. Well, I don't think he will STFU.

Not if the 60 Minutes piece I saw had any credibility to it.

10. Obama is going back to the normal chain of command AND he trusts Gates.
"Tim Fernholz flags an interesting passage from a Steve Coll article, which suggests Obama is returning to a more traditional chain-of-command structure after Bush -- to the dismay of some senior military officials -- insisted on talking directly to Petraeus."

Obama isn't going to be calling in bombing locations. Obama is also perfectly clear on who makes the decisions and I think he would follow the Truman method if required.

15. Bu$hCo politicized every part of the government ... including the Pentagon. What's left is hack
politicos. McChrystal is a political hack. What he needs to be saying in private up the chain of command, "we are playing 'whack a mole' with the Taliban and there is no military solution." And that would be truth to power.

11. Maybe there is another Gen MacArthur that needs to be taken down a peg or two?
His public disregard for his superiors is more than unsettling.

16. Don't get me wrong, I was agreeing. Imagine the statement being spoken in a saterical voice
implying that if Mac could be fired McChrystal certainly isn't a sacred cow.

21. Unrec'd-opinion in OP doesn't jive with info in article linked to
The General was asked a a question and he answered it directly. What was he supposed to do? Lie or refuse to answer?

"Apparently, McChrystal thinks he should be on the Presidents direct dial list."

Where in the article does General McChrystal say or even imply that he thinks he ought to be talking directly to President Obama more often then he has?
