"Liberals should probably spend less time making fun of dumb Republicans..."
I agree! And I know I am guilty of this plenty myself. Those Dems like the ones who voted against the Rockefeller Amendment are more of a problem than the GOP nowadays, and much more reachable too. We'll see how the Schumer one goes, Bill Nelson looks like he'll vote for it.

From Twitter:

daveweigel Liberals should probably spend less time making fun of dumb Republicans and more time working the phones to the Senate. Just saying.

1. Working the phones? For what? These Senators are bought and paid for.
We don't really matter. I doubt they even care about reelection...just a plushy job down the line.

2. And that's the problem right there
They'll use those teabaggers to justify their votes - because there's no main stream voters out there representing the opposing view.

3. or you could just totally give up
Look Nelson is committing to voting for Schumer's amendment, and it looks like Carper might flip too. How much would it take for them to have voted for Rockefeller's? Probably not a whole lot more pressure. Even Baucus is reachable on something like this, he used to be far more progressive, and he often responds to pressure. He's been my senator for most of my life up until the last 10 years, he's solid if not very progressive on things like American Indian issues, because our tribes in Montana pressure him and he has always needed us to get elected. I doubt that even Conrad or Lincoln are totally unreachable on this. Politicians respond to two things, pressure and money, and you need to fight just as hard if not harder with one in order to compete with the other.
