James Carville: I'd Run for Mayor If I Could

In an editorial for “ Gambit Weekly,” longtime political analyst and democratic strategist James Carville says, after years of consulting, that he has found the political office that he wants: mayor of New Orleans -- and the only thing standing in his way is the City Charter, which stipulates that a candidate must reside in the city for at least five years.

Carville is ruled out, then, because he has only lived in New Orleans for 15 months with his wife and two daughters, now as a political science professor at Tulane University.

As many of the potential top contenders – like Council President Arnie Fielkow and state Rep. Karen Carter Peterson -- have declined not to run for the job of mayor of New Orleans, Carville glows about the possibilities of being the next mayor.

“The truth is, though, if I could do it, I would do it. And I would not only run, I'd run with enthusiasm and optimism,” he writes.
