Yes this is another Ken Burns post. People have been lionizing Teddy here lately but his conservation legacy isn't completely clean. Gifford Pinchot used his power to steal the Owen's River water for LA and the San Fernando valley. It was a total resource grab for the rich that decimated the Owens River valley.
Now Steven Mather was a true hero.

The mission of the National Forests has changed over time with science and often unfortunately politics.
Gifford Pinchot was a man of his time and social class.
The Park Service and Department of the Interior have faults too.
