When I was running for the Senate in 2007 and 2008, I made a lot of phone calls. Seriously, so many calls -- you wouldn't believe it if I told you. I can't tell you, because I'm not sure exactly how many calls I made, but it was a lot.

I can tell you that when I was counting on friends to help me in my campaign, Senator Boxer always -- always -- took my call and was there for Franni and me when we needed it. And today, I'm asking you to support her campaign -- not just because she's been such a great friend to me (she has) and not only because she's been a great Senator for California (also true), but because her service has and will continue to benefit all Americans.

There's no doubt, Barbara is an exceptional leader in these most trying times. As a committee chair and on the Senate floor, she isn't afraid to take tough stands when she knows it's the right thing to do. And there's no better example of that than her dedication to creating clean energy jobs by addressing global warming.

That's the kind of leadership we need in the Senate, and that's the kind of leadership we get in Barbara Boxer.

Folks, at long last -- we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil and put Americans to work while we're at it. It's an obvious win-win and it's good policy for all Americans. But we need Barbara in the Senate leading that fight.
