Are we going to leave Afganistan
or continue to lose soldiers for no reason I can find? I can't figure out what direction we are going on this.

1. I hope it doesn't work out like Vietnam ...
where we decided to declare "victory" and leave ... while we were being KICKED-OUT. :(

he was a green beret in operation frequent wind and eagle pull. He repelled into VN nights before the evactuation and "set things up". He made he way to the mekong and down to the sea and was extracted by sub. He is so cool. It is like living with a movie.

2. No we will stay there and continue to lose
solders for years and years. How can we leave? Remember this was our (Democrats) good war, how can we leave now.

4. We no longer have a justifiable mission!
I don't understand what our mission is anymore. 8 years and no bin Laden. I don't think we are even looking for him anymore, He has been rumored to be in Pakistan. I herd today our mission was not to kill the enemy but to Protect the Afghan people, from what themselves, they have chosen their religion and way of life we should leave them be. Our men have families at home to raise not to mention the cost of keeping them over there. Even if we do hold out some hope of catching Bin laden wouldn't it be likely that he will return after we leave. Can you say drone?

8. Well from my understanding we are there
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 01:06 AM by doc03
to keep the Taliban from taking over again and therefore giving Al Qaeda a sanctuary. I was talking to a young Marine about a month ago that was going to Afghanistan the next week. He said they told him in training it is real bad over there a lot worse than the MSM tells us. He said we are having our ass handed to us.

9. It is not a single government system it is several tribal rulers
what we are doing there is unsuccessful. The soviets tried the same thing with the same outcome why is it our duty to protect the Afghans from themselves?

10. It comes down to pride, we don't want to leave with our tail
between our legs like in Vietnam. If you remember Obama claimed this war for himself long before the election, now he owns it, if we walk out guess who the Republicans blame. They give GWB credit for the surge that most Democrats opposed and then Obama cuts and runs from Afghanistan. Obama is between Iraq and a hard place.

had more to do with the bankrupting of the soviet union than Ronald Reagan!
