Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 08:51 AM by maxpower
Disgusted, that is the only word that I can think of as I read all the horrible bullshit day in and day out. The double standards and hypocrisy is so glaring. The right can do or say just about anything they want, and the sheeple eat it up. And they are the fucking minority. The dems are spineless cowards afraid of their own fucking shadows. None of our representatives would piss with their pants on fire without checking with their lobbyist corporate overlords permission. Protesting is a fucking joke, the fascist bully boys beat you down, unless you are protesting Obama. I just have to say FUCK ALL. We are screwed. Sorry for pissing on your cheerios this morning, but I just needed to blow off some steam. Have a good day.

Peace,
Max

P.S.
Enough about Polanski already.

1. you are not alone . . .
can't say I am "pissed" . . . or even "disgusted". I think I am feeling VERY VERY powerless.

As you say - corporations own our government - all of 'em. They (our leaders - in congress, in the WH) do not care about constituents - they only care about the corporate dollars. Baucus said it yesterday - he does not care about what Americans want - he is obliged to deliver what he thinks can get passed. And a PO (or single-payer) cannot get votes because the corporate lobbyists are so STRONGLY against it - cuts in to their obscene profits.

What a hopeless feeling. We have been sold out.

2. Max, dear man, you're preaching to the choir. Work local - that's the way!
I know and I empathize but don't despair.

Let's spend a little more time taking care of those who surround us in the REAL world and continue to organize in the CYBER one?

Best wishes to you and yours ... and BTW I'm living that "Serenity Prayer" .... one day at a time ... sometimes one moment at a time. :hi: :grouphug:

Helping here and there. The "Serenity Prayer" does help. Blowing off steam helps too. Sorry for all the negativity lately, I know we all are frustrated. At least here I can vent without people rolling their eyes and saying "there he goes again." I thank you all for that.

Peace,

3. The 'system', as sold, is a FRAUD.
The system was SUPPOSED to have 'checks and balances'.

But who 'checks and balances' the corporations?

We were TOLD that this is a "Representative Democracy".

30 years ago, I read that America, in its distribution of wealth and power, was much more like Central and South America than Western Europe.

I'm still waiting to see that disproven.

4. And that's exactly how our corporate overlords want you to feel.
Protesting is useless. We can't do anything about it. No one will broadcast our concerns, no one will pay attention to us protesters. We are powerles......

Exactly how have we shown Obama and the Dems we elected that we have their back?

The right has gotten organized and sent out their protesters to town hall meetings for a month long screaming frenzy. Then they culminated their attacks with a march on DC. What have we done to make visible our voice? Letters, e-mails and blogs are good but not enough.

Now, when are we going to march on Washington DC and stay there until we get what we need? We can pitch tents and bring port-a-potty.

One day of protest ain't going to cut it. We need to live in DC for a month. A rotating group of 50,000 people for a month might finally get some news coverage. Just like Cindy Sheehan did outside Crawford Texas.

So, how do we organize it?????

7. Yeah but she was outside Crawford and was fighting a losing battle against the bushes.
We have our Dems in Congress and the White House now.

Do you think Obama would have ignored Cindy like the idiot bush did?

We need to get out and show we are the majority.

15. Fair enough.
Like I said, I like your idea in the first place. I don't think protests do much, honestly, but we simply can't be quiet in the face of what the right is tossing out there.

29. Even though I generally think that protesting is ineffective, I have to hand it to Sheehan
I think she struck a mortal blow against Bush's credibility in a way that others could not. The simplicity of her message and her commitment to it really hit home for a lot of people, even many who supported Bush at the time. All she wanted was to meet with the President, and Bush's stubborn refusal to even talk with her alone for 10 minutes made him seem petty, insensitive and afraid to confront the consequences of his actions. All the administrations protestations that Bush had met Sheehan in a group setting etc. were to no avail. She made Bush look like the mean jerk he was to a lot of people for the first time.

I don't think Code Pink is any great friend to liberals in this country in general, but what she did in 2005 is, IMHO, the real "beginning of the end" of the Bush administration, not the dismal response to hurricane Katrina as some claim.

9. I think you are overestimating the effect of the reich-wing terrorists on policy.
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 08:45 AM by T Wolf
The politicians (Dems & pukes) already know what they are supposed to do.

The cretins (on the reich) screaming and rioting just give them cover to do as they are ordered by their owners, especially after media coverage exaggerating them.

edit - Protests on the left can be ignored and/or ridiculed because the media plays them as objects of scorn.

14. Bring back the Hoovertowns
Show them we are not going away. I wish I knew how to organize it. That is the difference between us and them. We are a fractious group. They get their orders directly from fox, Limbaugh etc. We have no centralized organization. That is the problem as I see it.

Peace,

6. We are winning.
We are fighting a powerful corrupt government bureaucracy and a press that has been consumed by big money and a "anything for ratings" mentality. We are also just bottoming out in the most severe economic recession in 100 years. The fact that Obama has been able to sustain a 55% approval rating is astonishing to me. We are also going to get a health care bill. It won't be everything we want but it will be a break-through, it will be a first time foot in the door. There are also signs that Obama is rethinking his Afghanistan strategy. Keep the faith. Things are going to get better.

8. I'm with you.
I have found I want to run away and not deal with it which is probably exactly what the idiots want us to do. It is just so exhausting dealing with the corruption and lunacy. Rep. Frank was so correct. Talking to these people is like talking to a dining room table. They are so 'out there'! And the corruptions of our politicians lining their pockets with big contributions from health insurance and drug companies while watching people go bankrupt or suffer and die is getting to be more than I can bear. We all KNOW that most of the legislative branch is corrupt but nothing is done to limit it. Integrity is dead while 'getting my share of the pot" is alive and well. I am truly tired and discouraged.

13. My outrage meter is broken
Somewhere during the time Bush was president, somewhere between napalm in Iraq, torture of children, "impeachment is off the table" and telecom immunity, the thing just broke, the needle fell off. After all that bullshit, I find it hard to get mad about anything they do anymore.

But I definitely agree that this system needs to be fixed.

28. I have been pretty disgusted since i was one of those
Air traffic controllers during the runnyraygun regime.
Well more accurately I was a Navy air traffic controler (gay) who was hounded out of the navy when I got put on a 'list' of suspected humuseksuls. When I was out I could not get a job in runnyraguns fascshit regimes FAA. Not that it 'ruined my life' it just ruined any chance at a decent income, then I got disabled, and have to live on 9,000 a year SSD.

To say that I was or am pissed is a very large understatement.
On the upside is I have healthcare covered, but I have to stay impoverished to keep that coverage.
Not that I can really hold down much of a job with HIV, seizures, cancer, migraines, severe asthma and a messed up back from an on the job(heavy electrical construction) injury.
My partner and I found a place in the woods we could actually afford to keep a roof over our heads and grow something of a garden and we find out this week that puke err duke power wants to use the towns drinking water reservoir to cool their newly planned coal fired power plant..15 miles upwind of where we just moved 2 years ago to get away from the crime and pollution of the city. On the days that the wind would blow from west to east (charlotte to greensboro nc) I had to stay inside and run the ac which we could not afford to pay for, because the coal smoke while not thick would set of trip to the hospital class asthma attacks.

I am of the opinion that maybe we should carry our fire arms to the town hall meetings to threaten the rightards with!

I'm pretty pissed about it as well but what can we, or anyone else for that matter, do about it? Protest? They accomplish nothing unless it's with large enough numbers and some persistence and even then nothing may come out of it. Of course the MSM won't cover it unless it's the teabaggers whom they help organize by the way. So with that being said I'm just going to sit back and see what happens, there's nothing I or anyone can do about it so why bother?

You are 100% on point. We know we are right and yet we all sit around and piss overselves any time we are attacked. The truth is that the right took over this country in the Reagan years by breaking the unions and then underfunding education (Democrats are generally more educated than Republicans). Then they created right-wing nut job media to make Americans believe that the Government is the enemy and yet be so patriotic?????? The time for civility is over. I say, be a Dick, be an Asshole and Fuck every Conservative, Republican, Evangelical Christian (which I still can't find anything Christian about them), right-wing media outlet (Should this be considered free speech?)
