First, my health insurance went up 30% and now homeowners 22%
Have I mentioned today how much I HATE insurance companies? I have never filed a claim on my homeowners policy, but I guess the consumer will once again, bail out the insurance business for their bad investment decisions.

Oh, and I also got a phone call last week from the broker who handles our car insurance asking why we hadn't added our daughter to our policy yet. They were absolutely salivating over the prospect of yet another rate increase. I reminded them that she had a disability that prevented her from driving, the same disability that they told us excluded her from eligibility for private health insurance when we were shopping for a new policy several years ago.

Anyone else want to join in on a big FU to the insurance industry in general?

1. I am scared to death of January
last years health insurance rate hike cost me $150 month extra. If they do the same this year I will be priced out . I could pay my electric, gas and cell phone bill with what it cost me keep health insurance...and that doesn't count my co pays, and such.

6. I don't know how people are making ends meet.
When my kids were born we had great health insurance. That same policy would cost more than 4 times as much today as it did back then (almost 20 years ago). Now we have high deductibles and have to fight for every single thing to be covered. I am frustrated and disgusted beyond belief to see people like Max Baucus rushing to hand over MORE money to an industry that is despicably corrupt.

2. Same here a couple of years ago.
The temptation is to say "Fuck it." and go live in a rented apartment and pay cash for everything. Just disconnect myself from the financial grid.

7. That's basically what I do.
A friend of mine keeps harping at me to buy a house, but the insurance has gone up so much since Katrina that I really don't think I would be better off. I could find some deals on houses right now, but if I have to pay outrageous insurance rates, I won't be able to save anything. It just doesn't pay to try to own anything anymore.

3. Wait until this piece of shit bill passes...
The Insurance Cartel will be newly emboldened by the official government approval of their slimly tactics.
Besides, they will have to pay for all of their bribes to the shitdog "legislators" - and we all know that won't be coming out of their exorbitant profit margins.
The people who run these things are Public Enemy's and should be treated accordingly (in a non-violent, lawful manner of course).

9. maybe the same reason certain parties appear to be trying to provoke race war?
they want to break down this society (& others, because messing with this one sets off dominoes) so they can build a different one?

something like a globally governed world order, perhaps?

11. An individual locust isn't trying to wipe out all the crops
But when there's a plague, the natural regulation of their population breaks down and the crops are the casualty.

When you spend 30 years eliminating all of our financial regulations, the middle class is the casualty. These companies are doing what they're bred to do - make maximum profit. It's up to us to regulate these vermin like the locusts they are.

19. Parker Brothers game of 'Monopoly' comes to mind.
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 10:55 AM by tinrobot
It's a simulation of the free market economy in a board game, and most of use have played it. The game always ends the same way -- after a few hours of unregulated economics, one person owns everything and everyone else is bankrupt.

In our present economy, when 1% of the people control 50% of the wealth, the game is pretty much over as well.

8. Investments by insurance companies have taken a big hit with Wall Street and the
recession. They're sure to ameliorate their losses by raising premiums.

10. Obama says those companies deserve that money
The insurance companies are hated by most Americans. In our peer nations, it is a crime to profit from basic health care services.

15. They're fucking criminals.
Murderers. Gangsters.
It's all a protection racket.
America's like a big Vegas nowadays.
They keep ya drunk and spinnin' their stupid wheel again and again... until
you're tapped out, totally, until you've got no home to go home to...

I'm sorry for what you're going thru. Seems like we're all sinking lately.

17. There are days, it is just frustrating beyond words.
I had to pay my property taxes which are due today and it is cold and raining so hubby and I couldn't go for our usual early morning walk. :-(

On the bright side, I actually had a nice conversation and a few good laughs with a woman at the cable company to work out a better billing plan. She agreed that there should be a bill passed requiring utilities and insurance companies to enclose a few free Xanax in any bill with a rate increase of more than 5%. :)

20. Fuck Insurance
We are beyond being screwed at this point. The average American isn't just being screwed, we are being violently gang-banged by convicts. Wall Street/Insurance/Financial intuitions aided and abetted by our elected representatives.

We need to pull all our money out of these criminal extortions rackets and put all your money into small local banks and credit unions. Starve the beast.

22. State Farm THOUGHT I was paying them more but I cancelled
effective 11/30 my renewal date. They wanted to DECREASE the amt of coverage but increase the premium which turned into an increase of 31% but my niece is a insurance broker, found me another policy with the same coverage but costs me $503 less per year so I passed her information along to my neighbors with State Farm or Allstate. Not only did I cancel my homeowner insurance with them I cancelled my auto, life insurance, motorcycle but got 7 of my neighbors to cancel them too.

I told my agent I would rather french kiss a rattle snake than give State Farm a crooked nickel.

23. Health insurance premium +30%, wages +0%
Eventually the system will collapse.
There comes a tipping point where we simply can't pay anymore.

State monopoly capitalism is the final stage.
