baucus - like shaking the hand of a cadaver

The man is seriously the epitome of the entrenched, stiff, cold, establishment politician.

I was part of a United Way luncheon committee in Billings where Baucus attended and said a few words several months ago.

I was able to catch him backstage. I shook his hand and pitched my support for aggressive HC reform, including a path to single payer and strong public option, as aggressively and as passionately as possible in the kitchen of a converted elementary school.

I got a cold, stiff, detached, no eye contact, standard/broad no answer of an answer. I may as well have walked into the stall of the mens room and proclaimed my support into the toilet.

Not sure what I was expecting, but the entire 2 minutes left me with an empty feeling. You meet and greet people all the time, shake hands and talk. You either feel good about it, like you had a meaningful conversation, kinda blah, or just empty - like nothing happened. Nothing happened in that 2 minutes.

2014 can't come soon enough.

Like I said, I know it is not a logical conclusion based on a handshake, but it is nonetheless the impression I get.
