Steele: Tom Friedman a 'nut job'

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele called New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman a “nut job” on Thursday for suggesting that current fury in among the conservative grassroots is creating the “same kind of climate here that existed in Israel on the eve of the Rabin assassination.”

After being read Friedman’s comments during an interview on CNN’s “American Morning,” Steele lashed out at the Times’ columnist.

“Where do these nut jobs come from?” Steele said. “I mean, come on, stop this.”

Asked by host John Roberts if Steele was calling Friedman specifically a “nut job,” the RNC chairman responded: “I’m just saying to make those kinds of equations, you know, examples, and put that out there that way, to me is just crazy.”

1. Mr. Pot meet Mr. Kettle...
Steele is extra spicy, extra crispy, batshit crazy.

“I mean, come on, stop this.”

Yeah! Why should you guys be held responsible for your actions anyway?

4. Tom may be pro Israel but he is no nut job.
Israel has a lot of nut jobs just like the US. Why do you think they still have a problem after 60 years? Have you ever heard Steele make an intelligent comment?

15. I haven't heard an intelligent comment from Steele.
But Six-month Tom is the most over-rated pundit in the world. Maybe not a nut, but surely, an ass.

6. Steele is right, but for the wrong reason. Friedman is a nut job. A free-market nutjob

Friedman is right on this issue, but still a nut job.

7. I don't think Friedman is remotely a nut job. Just because
I disagree with someone on a given issue doesn't make them a nutjob.

9. It's not that I disagree with him, it's that he was so fucking wrong and blind that it's hilarious

His book was sooooooo off the mark that he has as much credibility as Ron Paul or other nutjobs now that his predictions have so spectacularly not come true.

12. Here's a list of Tom Friedman's rather flexible deadlines for the Iraq War
There comes a point when a human being can only spout off so much nonsense and horseshit that one has no choice but to call them a nutjob due to them being totally divorced from reality.

13. Same here. I think he is naively optimistic about globalization...
...even though I am pro-globalization (for the same reason I am pro-EU rather than nationalist and pro-USA rather than seccessionist). I don't like Friedman's writing (his books are basically a bunch of short-form columns gathered together), I think he's oblivious to real world political considerations, and I cannot stand his urge to describe every goddam thing in terms of his own experiences and conversations...but none of that makes him a nut job.

On the other hand, people who use the phrase 'nut job' and similar pejoratives (regardless of context) are usually...best avoided, shall we say.

11. +1.
I have disliked Friedman's free market proselytizing for years and was thrilled when I read Matt Taibbi's great article describing many of my reservations about him:

14. Friedman is a lot worse than a "nut job" - he is a propagandist for terrorism.
In addition to being embarrassingly self-obsessed, incoherent and a remarkably bad writer...

in addition to his unconditional and blind pimping of the free-market religion that has brought such suffering to the world...

he was one of the most important press voices supporting the Iraq war lies.

Here he is on Charley Rose in 2003, demonstrating an ideology absolutely worthy of comparison to the Nazis: the proper response to Sept. 11th was to pick any country in the region, even if it was not involved (Iraq was ideal because it could not defend itself!), attack it, and let the rest know: SUCK ON THIS.

It's fascinating to see a defense of this spineless, unimaginative ogre coming from a poster who never rests in her reflexive attacks (usually using the same accusations of insanity) on Sibel Edmonds, Cynthia McKinney, Kucinich and many other courageous people who speak up for what is right and can actually say what they mean in coherent language.

but he is a professional propagandist.
