Hypocrisy Squared: The Scooter Store still advertises on Glen Beck
and they promise that if you qualify for Medicare, they will get you a scooter that Medicare will pay for. In fact, they claim that if they process your application for a scooter, and Medicare turns you down, they will provide it at no charge.

So, a company that makes money by providing motorized wheelchairs to Medicare recipients, advertises on a show whose host rails against the "evils" of "socialized medicine".

"Beam me up Scotty...there's no intelligent life here"

2. As long as you accept that most of the "anti-socialism" crowd...
...are only against socialism for other people, there's no inconsistency. It's like those old conjugation tables you learned in school"

I'm deserving
You're misguided
He/She/It is a Commie!

The justifications people use for these positions is often disturbingly hilarious. They fall into one of two types:

(1) The ones who hate any public provision of services, but are determined to "get their money back" by gaming the system while it lasts. They'll eagerly attend every meeting and protest aimed at cutting public funding for everything from schools to roads to mailboxes, but they'll still turn around and grab for every government freebie they can get.
(2) The ones who are so ignorant and incurious they fly into a rage when the word "socialism" is mentioned, regardless of the underlying reality of what's being discussed. Show them a kitten and tell them it's a commie kitty, and they'll stomp on its head before you can blink.

4. exactly
I was saddened to discover an old friend of mine has become a Libertarian. We argued on facebook for a bit about "the evils of government/socialism", then I remembered that his dad was in the Air Force and pointed out that he had a middle class education and went to college because of the government, to which he admitted that he had several government grants and scholarships, then he suddenly decided that the argument was over. My original point had been about us recognizing that government spending and taxes, even if you hate paying them, are not inherently a bad thing, and that we ALL receive a wealth of benefits every hour of every day thanks to the government.

5. Or they fail to see the benefits to the society
I would love to see an entrepreneur design, market, produce, sell and package a product or idea WITHOUT AN EDUCATED WORKFORCE...that workforce educated, of course, in our PUBLIC SCHOOLS

6. well, I started the conversation with a similar point
that every day we all benefit from government programs - in clean water, air, and food, in education, in employee rights, in contract rights, in our justice system, in the arts, and many other ways - and he said I was pushing Big Government propaganda.

I was shocked.

9. Why isn't Faux News demanding an investigation of the Scooter Store?
Edited on Thu Oct-01-09 05:16 AM by maxrandb
Glen Beck needs to be investigated as well. Since he likes to play the "guilt by association" game, why aren't we hearing 24/7 about his "ties" to this corrupt corporation???
