them. Am I wrong? Really, am I just being paranoid, and as

have been waiting almost 4 years for a hearing on my SS
disability claim. The Doctors(cardiologists) that NEWSWEEK

really not want to get attacked (and probably die as a result)

What is the saying? "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely." It seems to be true, but what it is missing is that it is not having the power which is corrupting. It is the choice of those who have it to be corrupt.

That is one of the things that I most respect about Michael Moore. He is very influential, yet he uses that influence for the public good. He takes considerable risks to do so. At the height of the Bush administration's power he stood up and defied them. I went to, and still go to his web site every day and I signed up for his newsletter because he gave me hope when everyone else who had the ability to speak was silent, and he still speaks the truth even when it is not convenient. He is a good man. One of the few powerful people I can say that about without qualification.

61. Here's a guy who the elites working the desk at "Mother Jones"

Didn't understand. He didn't just care about the workers, he was a working class person whose friends back in Flint Michigan actually worked the auto line.

The staff at Mother Jones couldn't figure him out, but one thing they agreed on - he didn't belong with them. They'd taken a chance on the guy, but he wasn't slim and trim like them, he didn't have the Ivy League college degrees, and what was it with a grown man wearing baseball caps all the time?

So they sacked him. I am betting that at the moment they sacked him, they figured he'd slink back to the Detroit Free Press or some other more local yokel job. I doubt that he was gone a full ten minutes before they put a nice, neat, thin and yuppish progressive into his former desk at the San Francisco magazine office. Someone who didn't wear those weird baseball hats. (It's all about Corppoate Culture in San Francisco, even if your magazine is supposed to be cutting edge.)

But MM takes money from his last pay check at Jones and goes and sees a documentary. I don't remember which one -- but here's the key thing - when he is leaving the theatre, he's thinking, not poor me, why couldn't those jerks at Mother Jones have appreciated me, no instead he's thinking, "That movie was good, but how hard could it be to make a movie? I bet I could make a movie that good. Maybe even better."

And so a star was born. And we here in America have all been a whole lot better for it, while some of the nastier people in our society have to hide under their desks (or behind their security guards) hoping that MM and his bullhorn doesn't come for them.

63. Odd chance encounter with Michael Moore disser

I began my thank you to MM with 'Thank you for what you do and how you do it."

And I was talking tonight with someone who claims appreciation of MM and yet critiques him in a way that IMHO is disconnected from reality.......


I was at Target in the electronics section at the checkout counter. It was late night and the checker was on their own in that section. A customer walked by and barked some questons from a distance.

I said, "I couldn't do your job, these days." ? "People barking at you like that... this atmosphere, I just couldn't do it" (I meant it as an Atta Boy/Girl not really sure which they were) ........ s/he says "I hate myself and I want to die" and we both laugh. S'he starts talking about 4 years ago, earning $35/hour (computer consulting) and working for Tower and a local vintage independent theater, where MM has shown movies and made appearances over the years...

"This latest one doesn't really seem to be addressing the problem-- he's just skimming off the top....."

So the nice young wo/man is talking about meeting MM twice and being a fan of "Roger and Me" and "The Big One" -- but "he just started making lots of money off them after that."

Now I'm kind of wrinkling my nose and closing my eyes, shaking my head "No."

The reason I listened and am recording here, is this is the sort of cliched dissing we've noticed on DU, without knowing WTF it's about -- the movie's not even out (much) yet....

"He doesn't take care of himself and if YaWannaStartAMovement ya gotta present yourself a certain way and that's why I love David Sedaris............"

I was introduced to your works by my best friend (now hubby Duer lame54) when he brought Roger and Me over for a movie night,
We traveled 300 miles south, to attend the opening of Fahrenheit 911 in Los Angele. When it came to our small town (Mammoth Lakes, CA) we stood outside the theater after each showing registering young voters.
We registered 22 new voters (I said it was a small town), Kerry won our district (Mono County, Ca) by just six votes. Sadly not the election, but we like to think it was because of your film and inspiring us to get involved.
I also was introduced to DU by you (didn't join till much later) Move-On (got involved with them hosting house parties in a very red part of Ca.) and many other progressive sites on the net.

Sicko will remain my favorite, it gave a voice to many of us who have been devastated at the hands of our Insurance Company.

We already have our tickets for Friday, this will be the third film of yours that we have seen on opening day.
