Seasonal flu shots suspended in Canada (B.C.)
I found this article very interesting. I had read las week here in LBN that there was some evidence that those that get the seasonal flu shot are more likely to get the swine flu.

But this info is not something I have heard in American media. (immunity to swine flu if born before 1957?) Also interesting considering the health care debate and here is good old Canada (and close to me in B.C.) taking a different track.

http://www.theprovince.com/health/Seasonal+shots+suspended+over+possible+H1N1+link/2045407/story.html

Plans to vaccinate British Columbians for seasonal flu have been suspended while health authorities investigate whether those who receive the shot are more susceptible to getting the H1N1 swine flu.

Only those 65 and over or those living in long-term-care homes will be given the seasonal flu shot, starting Oct. 13. That group is most likely to suffer complications due to seasonal influenza and are among those with the least risk of catching the H1N1 virus due to their age.

The seasonal flu shot will not be made available to the general public until early 2010.

Provincial health officer Dr. Perry Kendall said those born before 1957 have an immunity to the swine flu due to viruses similar to H1N1 circulating at the time.

3. I have heard it in US Media
through NPR.

I talked to my doc about it today... we discussed just how this data was collected and she said CDC still stands by it, because they have not been able to replicate this.

Take it as it may be.

I got my shot last week, and will get my Hinie flue shot in the next two weeks, once the clinic gets them in.

5. How are you doing Mojorabbit?
Are you doing ok?

I'm sure you're husband is exposed to just about everything--hence you are more
susceptible too. I hope you are getting along ok.

Swine flu is rampant in my area. Ten percent of the kids in our two middle schoolers
are out with it. Is it bad in your area.

Take care MR--and I hope you're feeling better soon. :)

8. I am pretty miserable
thank you for asking.:) I have Multiple Sclerosis and had been out of the house way more than normal lately, ie sitting with an elderly family member at the hospital who was very confused and was way over tired due to this. I let my self get really run down and probably picked it up because of it.
My temp on day 3 is 100.9 which is much better than yesterday and I have a lot of vertigo which may be a flare of the MS starting up, I have no idea. I can't wait till it is over. I feel like someone ran over me with a truck.
I decided not to do tamiflu though I had it available and now I wish I had. Hubby took it and was a thousand times better within 36 hours.
It is picking up at a good clip here in Orlando. He is seeing a gazillion cases. I have 2 nieces down with it also and it seems to be spreading in the schools here.

6. And from the cdc site
In terms of the media reports coming out of Canada, there are reports that the -- in some analyses, people who received the seasonal flu vaccine were more likely to get h1n1 infection. We have looked at our data at the CDC nationally. I have looked carefully at the data from New York City where we had a very large outbreak and lots of information about what vaccine was received. The Australians have looked at it and published their information. And in none of those data is there any suggestion that the seasonal flu vaccine has any impact on your likelihood of getting h1n1. It doesn't protect you at all and there's no suggestion from any of the other data sets that it increases your risks. If data is published in the scientific literature, but all means, we would love to see it. If there's preliminary data, we would love to see it. But nothing that wove seen suggests that that is likely to be a problem.
